A tragic workplace accident in Australia has left a 49-year-old man dead after he was crushed by heavy sheets of glass during a delivery.
The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 20, at a home on Valencia Street in Dural, a suburb of Sydney. According to the New South Wales Police Force, emergency crews were called to the residence after reports of a serious workplace incident.
When paramedics arrived, they attempted to treat the worker — but it was too late. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the man had been delivering large panes of glass when multiple sheets suddenly collapsed on top of him, crushing him during the job. Authorities have not yet released his identity.
Following the devastating incident, officers established a crime scene at the property while investigators began working to determine exactly what went wrong. Workplace safety officials have also been notified, and a detailed report will be prepared for the coroner.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact local Crime Stoppers.
The tragedy comes amid ongoing concerns about workplace safety across Australia. According to Safe Work Australia, at least 30 workers had already lost their lives on the job as of early April this year.
Last year, the toll was even higher, with 180 workplace deaths recorded nationwide. The most dangerous industries included transport, postal and warehousing, followed by agriculture, forestry and fishing — with construction also ranking among the highest-risk sectors.
