Triathlete Shared ‘Haunting’ Final Message Before Drowning During Ironman

A glamorous triathlete and social media influencer left behind a chilling final post just days before tragedy struck in the waters of Texas.

Brazilian athlete Mara Flávia, 38, shared what now reads like a haunting goodbye — a poolside photo from her last training session — before she disappeared during the swim portion of the Ironman Texas North American Championship.

“Just another day at work,” she captioned the snap in Portuguese, smiling in a pink swimsuit and cap as she sat at the edge of a pool. The post, set to the iconic track “Show Me Love,” quickly turned into a chilling final message after her sudden death.

Just two days later, Flávia entered the open-water swim in The Woodlands — the grueling first leg of the 140-mile endurance race — and never made it out.

Chaos erupted about an hour into the race when officials received reports of a “lost swimmer” around 7:30 a.m. Volunteers on kayaks raised alarms, waving flags and blowing whistles as panic spread across the water.

One volunteer described the terrifying moment swimmers realized something was wrong.

“She went under. Right here. Right below us,” he recalled, describing the fear on nearby athletes’ faces as the situation escalated in seconds.

Another man dove in desperately, trying to find her beneath the surface.

“I felt her body with my foot,” he said. “I came up for air and went back down — she was gone.”

Rescue crews battled murky conditions as divers and sonar teams swept the lake. Nearly two hours later, Flávia’s body was recovered from about 10 feet underwater. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed she drowned during the swim portion of the race, though exactly what caused her to go under remains a mystery. Investigators say standard protocols are underway.

Flávia wasn’t just an athlete — she had built a growing online following of more than 60,000 fans who followed her journey from media professional to elite competitor. Before diving into triathlons at 28, she worked in radio and television and went on to earn major wins, including two Brazilian Grand Prix titles.

Now, her final post — once a routine training update — is being shared worldwide for a far more heartbreaking reason.

A smiling moment frozen in time… just before everything went dark.
