An Indiana woman is accused of brutally killing her 70-year-old father and removing his heart before barricading herself inside their home during a nearly two-hour SWAT standoff.

Serena Dolnics, 32, has been charged with murder in the grisly death of her father, Gregory Dolnics, at the Valparaiso, Indiana, home where the two lived together.

Police were called to the house after concerned relatives requested a welfare check, saying Serena had made several “odd statements” when family members tried to speak with Gregory.

The situation became even more alarming when Serena’s boyfriend allegedly began sending messages to relatives while one family member was on the phone with 911.

According to authorities, the boyfriend claimed he was inside the home and had seen Serena “covered in blood.” He allegedly told the family that Serena had stabbed her father and that he feared she might also take her own life.

When officers arrived, Serena had reportedly locked herself inside a bedroom and refused to come out.

A SWAT team was called to the scene, leading to a tense standoff that lasted nearly two hours before Serena was finally taken into custody.

What investigators allegedly discovered inside the house was horrifying.

Gregory was found dead with numerous injuries, including wounds to his head, hands and arms. Court documents said his chest cavity “appeared to be empty, as if something was removed.”

Authorities said Gregory’s heart appeared to have been removed from his chest and placed on his stomach.

Investigators also reportedly recovered three blood-covered blades from the home.

A coroner later ruled Gregory’s death a homicide caused by multiple sharp-force injuries.

Serena was taken to a hospital after her arrest for injuries to her hand. She allegedly told officers she had hurt herself while using a “weedwhacker and small saw” outside in the yard.

Medical personnel, however, reportedly believed the wounds looked more consistent with injuries caused when a knife slips through someone’s hand while being used.

Serena has been charged with one count of murder and is being held without bond.

She pleaded not guilty during an appearance before Porter County Circuit Court Judge David P. Matsey.

Authorities have not publicly identified a motive, and the investigation into the shocking killing remains ongoing.
