Kai Trump is finding out that leaving home for college can be a lot harder than it looks.

President Donald Trump’s 19-year-old granddaughter became emotional in a new YouTube vlog documenting her first week at the University of Miami, admitting she was “struggling” before classes had even begun.

Kai, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump, is attending the Florida university as a freshman and is set to join its women’s golf team.

But before she could settle into campus life, the teenager broke down in tears while preparing to leave her home in Jupiter, Florida, roughly 90 minutes away.

“I’ve been literally sobbing,” Kai told viewers as she got ready to say goodbye to her family and friends.

“It’s like really sad that I have to say goodbye to like everyone today.”

Kai admitted the emotional reaction caught even her by surprise.

“I’m not like a very emotional person at all,” she said. “It is like really weird for me to cry.”

She continued, “I’m struggling right now, just like thinking about it. But like I’m excited. It’s just like I’m emotional.”

Things appeared to improve once Kai arrived at school.

Her 21-minute vlog showed her practicing golf, spending time with friends and adjusting to her new surroundings.

At one point, however, Kai claimed she had not “eaten in three days,” prompting a friend to bring her frozen food.

The two later went shopping together.

Kai has previously attracted attention for showing off her lifestyle online.

Earlier this year, she faced criticism over a YouTube video originally titled “I Brought My Secret Service to Erewhon.”

The title was later changed to “I Tried the World’s Most Expensive Grocery Store.”

During the outing, Kai purchased several pricey items from the upscale grocery chain, including a $21 Hailey Bieber “Strawberry Glaze Skin” smoothie and a $10 lemonade.

She also joked that she was “about to go bankrupt” after discovering an Erewhon-branded sweatshirt cost $165.

Kai sells clothing through her own merchandise line, where a sweatshirt has reportedly been priced at $130.

Her freshman-week troubles did not end with homesickness.

Kai later revealed that she came down with strep throat and became sick enough that she returned home to Jupiter.

“I came all the way back to Jupiter because I was so sick I needed my mom to nurse me back to health,” she said.

Kai committed to the University of Miami two years ago and publicly thanked her family after making the decision.

“I would like to thank my mom, Vanessa, and my dad, Don, for always supporting me through my journey,” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

She also gave a special shoutout to her famous grandfather, whom she frequently joins on the golf course.

“I would like to thank my Grandpa for giving me access to great courses and tremendous support,” she wrote.

Kai has built a sizable public profile of her own through social media, golf and brand deals, with her net worth previously estimated at more than $1 million.

The University of Miami officially announced Kai as one of three new golf recruits in 2025, describing her as a “rising player.”

Women’s golf head coach Janice Olivencia also expressed excitement about the high-profile recruit.

“Kai will bring tremendous energy and excitement to Miami,” Olivencia said at the time.

For now, though, Kai’s first taste of college life has included tears, homesickness, illness and an emergency trip back to Mom — all before the semester has truly gotten underway.
