‘Controversial’ Dolly Parton Tribute Leaves Fans Furious

Former child star Ricky Schroder is taking heat online after using his tribute to Dolly Parton to make one thing very clear — he didn’t always agree with the country music legend.

The 56-year-old Silver Spoons alum honored Parton following her death Tuesday at age 80, sharing a photo of himself smiling alongside the beloved singer.

But instead of keeping the message focused entirely on Parton’s life and legacy, Schroder added a political caveat that quickly sparked backlash.

“I didn’t agree with her advocating for Transgender & Covid Vaccine support…but Loved her anyway,” Schroder wrote on Instagram. “Thank you for choosing me Dolly to be your Movie Daddy.”

The remark immediately rubbed some fans the wrong way, with critics questioning why Schroder felt the need to bring divisive political issues into a tribute to the music icon.

Schroder had a personal connection to Parton after playing her father, Lee Parton, in the 2015 TV movie Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors, which was inspired by the singer’s childhood.

He returned to the role in the 2016 sequel, Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.

For viewers who remember Schroder as the fresh-faced Ricky Stratton on the hit 1980s sitcom Silver Spoons, the actor looks dramatically different these days.

Schroder now sports long hair, a beard, glasses and often a hat, and he has become increasingly outspoken about his political views on social media.

After Silver Spoons ended in 1987, Schroder went on to build a successful adult acting career, including a three-season run on NYPD Blue.

But he has largely stepped away from Hollywood in recent years. His last major screen appearance came in the 2016 Parton Christmas movie.

Parton’s death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from celebrities and fans around the world, celebrating a career that stretched across decades and made her one of the most recognizable entertainers in American history.

Schroder’s message, however, has become one of the more controversial farewells — with his decision to mention their political differences threatening to overshadow the heartfelt portion of his tribute.
