Former child star Ashley Johnson has revealed the terrifying moment an armed stranger allegedly grabbed her and tried to carry her away from the set of Growing Pains.

Johnson was just 7 years old when she joined the hit ABC sitcom in 1990, playing Chrissy Seaver alongside Alan Thicke, Joanna Kerns, Tracey Gold and Kirk Cameron.

Now, decades later, the actress is opening up about the frightening security scare that unfolded during the height of the show’s popularity.

Speaking on the Weird Kids podcast, Johnson said security around the studio was surprisingly relaxed during live tapings, despite the cast reportedly receiving a disturbing threat from someone who promised to bring a gun and kill members of the show.

“It was just a free-for-all,” Johnson recalled.

She explained that cast members regularly walked just a few feet from audience members as they entered the studio, waving and thanking fans for coming to watch the taping.

“You’re within five feet of the audience when you’re walking in,” she said.

That close contact allegedly turned dangerous one day as Johnson entered the set with her mother.

“I just remember some guy hops out of the line, and he grabs me up and starts booking it,” Johnson said. “I just remember flying around in the air.”

The actress said she was too young to fully understand what was happening and even tried to politely introduce herself to the stranger as he carried her away.

“I was such a polite kid at the time,” she recalled. “I was like, ‘Who are you, sir? What is your name? I was very pleased to meet you.’”

Johnson said security guards quickly tackled the man before he could escape with her.

“I was clueless as to what was happening, but I was very upset,” she said.

According to Johnson, the alleged attacker was carrying a gun and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

“He was packing,” she said. “He was high on something. It wasn’t meth, but it was something. He was so strong.”

The Blindspot and The Last of Us star said people immediately surrounded her and made sure she was not injured.

She credited the Growing Pains security team with stopping the alleged kidnapping and saving her life.

“They got him,” Johnson said. “And they saved me.”

The man was later sent to jail, according to the actress.

Johnson, who turns 43 on Aug. 9, went on to build a successful career after Growing Pains, appearing in television shows, movies and major video game franchises.

But the chilling childhood encounter remains one of the most frightening moments from her years as a young Hollywood star.
