A 19-year-old man who died after falling from Los Angeles City Hall has been identified as Avery Truesdale, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Emergency crews were called to the downtown Los Angeles landmark shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, after reports that someone had fallen from the upper floors of the building.

Truesdale was pronounced dead at the scene.

Law enforcement sources told The California Post that Truesdale fell from the observation deck area on the 27th floor, on the Spring Street side of City Hall, before landing near the front steps.

Sources said Truesdale was not a City of Los Angeles employee. He was reportedly wearing a visitor badge when his body was found.

Visitors to Los Angeles City Hall are required to go through security screening before entering the building. They must obtain a temporary visitor badge and tell security personnel where they are going and the purpose of their visit.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating Truesdale’s death as an apparent suicide.

By Thursday, July 16, parts of City Hall remained blocked off with yellow crime-scene tape as investigators continued their work. Steel security doors were also seen blocking public access to portions of the building.

Despite the investigation, the City Hall observation deck remained open to visitors.

No further details about the circumstances surrounding Truesdale’s death were immediately available.
