Meghan Markle reportedly feared her royal home could be haunted — and allegedly considered bringing in a spiritual expert to cleanse her unborn baby’s nursery of unwanted spirits.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, is said to have wanted an exorcist-style “spiritual cleanser” to perform a healing ceremony at Frogmore Cottage before the birth of her son, Archie, in 2019.

According to a source described as being close to Meghan’s inner circle, the duchess did not see the proposed visit as an exorcism. Instead, she reportedly viewed it as a way to clear the historic Windsor home of negative energy and make the nursery feel calm and safe.

The alleged plan is said to have been suggested by a feng shui specialist Meghan consulted while decorating Frogmore Cottage, which she and Prince Harry renovated before stepping away from royal duties.

The couple reportedly spent at least $5 million renovating the property before their dramatic departure from life as working royals, commonly known as Megxit.

Frogmore Cottage sits on the Windsor estate near the Royal Burial Ground, where Queen Elizabeth II’s uncle, Edward VIII, and his wife, Wallis Simpson, are buried.

The surrounding area is also home to two royal mausoleums containing the tombs of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and Queen Victoria’s mother, the Duchess of Kent.

The historic estate has long been surrounded by ghost stories. Visitors and royal watchers have reported alleged sightings of King Henry VIII walking through nearby Windsor Castle, along with his beheaded wife, Anne Boleyn.

Henry VIII is buried inside St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

“Meghan has always been full of Hollywood-style superstitions about astrology, psychics and feng shui,” the source claimed.

“So it’s no surprise she wanted a spiritualist to conduct a ‘cleanse’ of Frogmore Cottage after her feng shui specialist said it may be the best move to give her peace of mind.”

The insider added that Meghan allegedly preferred the phrase “spiritual cleanse” and did not want the ceremony described as an exorcism.

The spiritual expert would reportedly have examined the cottage for any “malevolent forces” or negative energy that could create bad feelings inside the home.

The source claimed the expert may also have recommended hanging crosses and leaving doors and windows open so spirits could move freely through the property.

Meghan allegedly wanted the ceremony performed before Archie’s birth. Archie, now 7, was born in London in May 2019. His younger sister, Princess Lilibet, was born in California in June 2021.

The source claimed Meghan became increasingly emotional and anxious as Archie’s birth approached.

“If a visit from an exorcist would have helped calm her down, what would have been the harm?” the insider said.

However, Meghan was reportedly talked out of arranging the visit by royal staff members.

One source claimed palace aides warned her that there was “no place for this kind of kooky superstition” on royal property.

Meghan has previously spoken publicly about her interest in feng shui. Before marrying Harry, she wrote about the ancient Chinese practice on her now-defunct lifestyle website, The Tig.

“The ancient Chinese art of feng shui has been practised for nearly 3,000 years,” Meghan wrote at the time.

“With so many layers of tradition and technicality, it may seem daunting to introduce to your home aesthetic and ethos.”

She continued: “However, the core of feng shui is about making you feel comfortable and at ease in your home so that it can translate into every aspect of your life — so fret not.”

Meghan’s alleged concerns may also have been fueled by eerie stories surrounding another famous royal nursery.

Prince William and Princess Catherine raised their children in Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, where the nursery has been described as a notorious location for ghost sightings.

Royal biographer Andrew Morton, best known for his books about Princess Diana, wrote about the supernatural claims after Prince George was born.

“Prince George’s nursery in Apartment 1A of Kensington Palace has been a notorious spot for ghost sightings,” Morton said.

Royal babies are traditionally cared for in the nursery before eventually being moved into their own rooms.

Three spirits are said to haunt the Kensington Palace nursery: King George II, Caroline of Brunswick and Princess Sophia.

According to Morton, Princess Margaret’s housekeeper once claimed she saw a woman wearing Regency-era clothing suddenly appear before vanishing through a wall.

“I don’t believe any exorcism has been carried out, so let’s hope little Prince George can sleep peacefully in his cot at night,” Morton wrote.

A royal source also said at the time that generations of royal children had been raised in what became known as the “haunted nursery.”

However, William and Catherine reportedly never witnessed anything supernatural inside the room.

“Kate and William have not spotted anything spooky there,” the source said. “And until they do, the room will continue to be used as a nursery.”
