Fox Sports announcer Warren Barton was left bleeding on live TV after a wild World Cup moment turned scary in Mexico City.
The former soccer star was calling Colombia’s 3-1 win over Uzbekistan on Wednesday when something came flying from the crowd and struck him in the head late in the match.
Barton later revealed the injury on X, sharing a photo that showed blood on his forehead.
“Great game tonight except for being hit by a bottle,” he wrote.

His broadcast partner, Jacqui Oatley, gave fans a closer look at just how bizarre the scene became inside the stadium.
“That was an unusual one,” Oatley wrote on X.
She said she was drenched in beer while calling a goal, which she joked was “quite refreshing,” before Barton was suddenly hit.
“Poor Warren Barton was whacked/cut in the head by a flying bottle,” she said. “I heard him being hit and turned round to see blood trickling down his forehead.”
Thankfully, she added, “He’s OK.”
Fans watching at home said they could actually hear the moment Barton was hit, with a loud thud appearing to strike his headset during the final minutes of the match.

What a broadcast. https://t.co/6ATPXwApnF pic.twitter.com/UQvAlHmzYB
Despite blood running down his face, Barton kept going like a pro.
“You got an actual cut to the head,” Oatley told him during the broadcast. “You’re dripping with blood, I’m not joking.”
Barton tried to laugh it off.
“I know, I know,” he said. “It’s OK. It’s good. Whatever it was, it was sharp.”
The frightening moment came during an already strange night for the Fox Sports broadcast team.
At one point, a cameraman reportedly injured his ankle during the game and did not appear to return to his post.
“He must have really hurt his ankle,” Oatley said on air.
The match itself ended with Colombia beating Uzbekistan 3-1, but much of the attention afterward centered on the chaotic scene around the broadcast booth.
It is not yet clear whether Barton needed stitches after being struck.
The World Cup match aired on Fox Sports 1 as part of the network’s tournament coverage.

I am just glad that he didn’t get seriously hurt.
