Boxing icon Sugar Ray Leonard is taking legal action against his own son after a disturbing incident at the family’s Pacific Palisades home.

The 68-year-old former world champion filed for a restraining order against his youngest son, Daniel Leonard, on May 20, just hours after the 25-year-old was arrested in Los Angeles.

In court documents obtained by The California Post, Leonard made explosive claims about Daniel, accusing him of being an addict, a thief, and a growing threat to himself and the family.

“He has overdosed 4 times,” Leonard wrote in a handwritten declaration. “They had to bring him back to life 2 times at the hospital!”

Leonard also alleged that Daniel had stolen from the family for years.

“He has stolen extreme amounts of money valuable items!” Leonard wrote, adding that his son “steals every day for years.”

The retired boxing legend asked a judge to order Daniel to stay at least 100 yards away from him, his Pacific Palisades home, his job, his vehicle, his wife Bernadette, and his daughter Camille.

Leonard also requested that Daniel be forced to move out of the family residence.

“My son Daniel Leonard has been a drug addict for 7 or 8 years at least,” Leonard wrote in the filing. “His behavior has gotten worse over the years!”

According to Leonard, the situation reached a breaking point on May 19, when an alleged confrontation erupted at his home.

“We had a physical altercation where he pushed me and got ugly!” Leonard claimed in the filing.

He said police were called to the home because the situation was escalating.

“The police officers were needed at that moment!” Leonard wrote. “The police officers came and [Daniel] was escorted off our property because of where things were headed.”

Leonard claimed he was granted a temporary restraining order after that encounter.

But the very next day, Daniel allegedly returned to the home anyway.

Los Angeles County jail records show Daniel was taken into custody around 6:45 a.m. on May 20 for allegedly violating the order. He was not released until May 22.

In the filing, Leonard described his son’s behavior as increasingly frightening.

Daniel’s “behavior has become so cold!” Leonard wrote. “I love my son but he has become a danger not only himself but to his family!”

Leonard also said his wife and daughter were terrified.

“My wife is extremely afraid along with me daughter Camille!” he wrote.

The boxing legend painted a heartbreaking picture of a family allegedly pushed to the edge after years of turmoil.

“His behavior has gotten worse every day,” Leonard wrote. “We haven’t had a day of peace in 9 years which is the reality of his addiction! Scared for my family!”

A judge granted Leonard’s request shortly after it was filed, ordering Daniel to stay at least 100 yards away from Leonard and his wife. Daniel was also ordered to move out of the boxer’s home.

However, the judge noted that “additional facts” were “needed” before Camille could be included as a protected party under the order.

The temporary order is set to remain in place until June 15, when the court is scheduled to consider whether to issue a more permanent restraining order.

Daniel is also expected back in court on June 25 for a hearing tied to the alleged restraining order violation.

Attempts to reach Daniel for comment were unsuccessful.

The allegations mark a stunning and painful public turn for Leonard, one of boxing’s most beloved champions, whose family crisis is now playing out in court.
