A routine night on the job turned into a nightmare no family could ever imagine.
Antony “Bubba” Cada, a 59-year-old grandfather from Central Texas, had only been working at a local factory for about a month when he suddenly disappeared during his shift. Just hours later, his wife would receive the kind of call that changes everything — and raises chilling questions that still haven’t been answered.
“We were still in shock. Just can’t, couldn’t believe this was happening,” his wife, Anissa Cada, said as she struggled to process the unimaginable loss.
According to local reports, the incident unfolded late Friday, April 24, at a Darling Ingredients facility in Bastrop County — a plant that processes poultry byproducts into animal feed. Bubba, described as a hardworking truck operator, had only recently started working nights.
Around 9:30 p.m., authorities were told he was missing.
Two hours later, the situation took a horrifying turn.
Officials began to suspect that an employee had died inside the facility. By Saturday morning, Anissa got confirmation that her husband of 35 years was gone — but what she was told next only deepened the tragedy.
When she asked about bringing her husband home, investigators reportedly told her that only bones had been recovered.
Even more disturbing, she was told that workers found what appeared to be parts of his uniform and a boot near an industrial grinder inside the plant.
“When they went to the grinder, that’s when some of his looked-to-be uniform, and a boot were found,” Anissa revealed.
Now, instead of grieving with answers, the family is left with haunting uncertainty.
“Closure is what heals us,” she said. “But not having a body — and not having answers — it’s not going to be anytime soon.”
The company says it is cooperating with investigators and emphasized that safety is its top priority, offering condolences to the family. But for Bubba’s loved ones, those words bring little comfort as they wait for the truth.
The investigation is now in the hands of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which could take up to six months to determine exactly what happened inside that factory.
Until then, a grieving family is left piecing together a tragedy that unfolded in the dark — and wondering how a man could walk into work… and never come home.
