College football fans were left stunned after rising Missouri Tigers star Ahmad Hardy was rushed into emergency surgery following a terrifying shooting at a concert in Mississippi.
The 20-year-old running back — already being talked about as a possible first-round NFL Draft pick and even a dark horse Heisman contender — was shot in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to the university.
Missouri confirmed Hardy suffered a gunshot wound and underwent surgery shortly afterward. Thankfully, the school says he is now in stable condition.
“Ahmad Hardy was the victim of a shooting at a concert in Mississippi early Sunday morning and sustained a gunshot wound,” the university said in a statement. “Ahmad underwent surgery Sunday and is in stable condition.”
The school added that Hardy is surrounded by support from teammates, coaches, friends and family as he begins recovery.
At this point, officials still have not revealed exactly where Hardy was shot or how severe the injuries are. Missouri also admitted it’s too early to know when — or if — he’ll be able to return to football activities.
Still, there’s already some encouraging news.
According to ESPN, Hardy is alert and moving, and there is growing optimism that he could eventually make it back onto the football field.
That’s huge news for Tigers fans, because Hardy was expected to be one of the most explosive players in college football this season.
The standout running back exploded onto the national scene in 2025 after racking up an eye-popping 1,649 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns in the SEC. Some analysts were already projecting him as one of the top running backs in the country heading into 2026.
One of his biggest moments came during a revenge-style performance back in his home state of Mississippi last November.
Hardy absolutely torched Mississippi State for 300 rushing yards and three touchdowns in Missouri’s 49-27 victory — a game he later admitted felt personal.
“I’m from Mississippi,” Hardy said afterward. “A lot of teams didn’t recruit me coming out of high school, so it was kind of personal.”
Before transferring to Missouri, Hardy also dominated at Louisiana-Monroe, where he rushed for 1,351 yards and 13 touchdowns during his freshman season.
Standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 206 pounds, Hardy had become one of the most talked-about young stars in the SEC thanks to his combination of speed, power and toughness.
Now, fans across the college football world are hoping the talented running back can fully recover after the frightening incident.
Missouri opens its 2026 season on Sept. 3 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Prayers for this young man.🙏🙏🙏
