What was supposed to be a dream getaway ended in a scene straight out of a nightmare.
A 57-year-old German tourist is dead after a venomous cobra—part of a live snake show—reportedly slithered up his pants and bit him during a performance at a luxury resort in Egypt, according to authorities.
The shocking incident unfolded earlier this month in Hurghada, a high-end Red Sea destination known for its all-inclusive resorts and flashy entertainment. But this particular show took a terrifying turn when one of the snakes broke from the usual routine.
According to Bavarian State Police, the cobra somehow made its way into the man’s trousers during the performance before biting him on the leg—sending the crowd into chaos.
The victim, who was vacationing with family from Germany’s Unterallgäu region, quickly began showing severe symptoms of venom poisoning. Officials say he had to be resuscitated before being rushed to a nearby hospital.
He didn’t make it.
Authorities confirmed the man died shortly after arrival, turning what began as a casual night of entertainment into a deadly tragedy.
Investigators revealed that the snake show allowed close interaction between performers, snakes, and guests—a common but risky practice in some tourist hotspots. In some cases, snakes were even draped around audience members’ necks.
This time, that close contact proved fatal.
Officials believe two cobras were used in the performance, both known for their potent venom, which can rapidly shut down the nervous system and cause paralysis or respiratory failure if not treated immediately.
A toxicology report is still pending as German authorities continue to investigate the bizarre and horrifying death. The case is being handled by the Memmingen Criminal Police Inspectorate under the direction of local prosecutors.
Meanwhile, the tragedy is raising fresh questions about the safety of interactive animal shows at tourist resorts—especially when the line between entertainment and danger becomes dangerously thin.
What started as a luxury escape ended in one of the most chilling vacation deaths imaginable.
