15 Women Killed After Train Car is Crushed in Deadly Collision

A devastating train collision outside Indonesia’s राजधानी has left a trail of destruction — and heartbreak — after a women-only train car was obliterated in a violent crash that killed at least 15 passengers and injured nearly 90 others.

The nightmare unfolded Monday evening, April 27, near Bekasi Timur Station just outside Jakarta, when a long-distance train slammed into the rear of a stationary commuter train — with catastrophic consequences.

That rear carriage, reserved exclusively for female passengers, bore the full force of the impact. Officials confirmed that all of the victims were women, many of whom were trapped inside the twisted wreckage.

Indonesia’s senior infrastructure minister, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, revealed the grim toll after rescue teams pulled victims from the crushed metal. Many, he said, were pinned inside the carriage as it collapsed under the force of the collision.

Miraculously, all 240 passengers aboard the long-distance train survived.

Authorities now believe the tragedy may have been set off by a shocking chain reaction. According to early findings, another commuter train struck a stalled taxi near the station — forcing railway staff to halt a second train on the tracks. Moments later, the long-distance train plowed into the stopped cars.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto rushed to visit survivors at a nearby hospital, vowing a full-scale investigation into the disaster and calling for urgent upgrades to the country’s railway safety systems.

Officials are now zeroing in on dangerous rail crossings — many of which remain unprotected — as a possible contributing factor. Plans are already underway for new infrastructure, including “flying junctions,” to prevent future catastrophes.

Jakarta police chief Asep Edi Suheri confirmed that investigators are working to piece together exactly what went wrong, while the country’s National Transportation Safety Committee has also launched a probe.

For now, families are left grieving, survivors are recovering, and a nation is demanding answers after one of the deadliest rail disasters in recent memory.
