Nancy Pelosi Fell in ‘Very High’ Heels, Then Powered Through Pain for a Photo

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, suffered a broken hip after a dramatic fall on a marble staircase during a visit to Luxembourg.

The incident occurred last Friday at the Grand Ducal Palace, where Pelosi was part of a bipartisan delegation commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. Despite the injury, Pelosi surprised onlookers by posing for a group photo before being rushed to a hospital.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-Texas), who was nearby, described the fall and its aftermath.

“She was wearing very high heels, as she often does,” McCaul said during a press briefing. “She was on the last step of a marble staircase without a railing when she lost her footing and went down hard. I helped her up immediately. You can see me holding her hand in the photo we took right after.”

The bipartisan delegation traveled to Luxembourg to honor the sacrifices of soldiers who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, a turning point in World War II. Pelosi’s fall occurred as the group was descending the palace’s historic staircase.

In the now widely shared delegation photo, Pelosi is seen gripping McCaul’s hand firmly, her left hand placed over her hip—possibly masking the pain of her injury. Observers noted her composed expression, a testament to her resilience under the circumstances.

“She’s tough,” McCaul remarked. “After the fall, she insisted on standing for the photo before heading to the hospital.”

Pelosi was promptly transported to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, near the U.S. Ramstein Air Base, where she underwent hip replacement surgery.

Despite her injury, Pelosi remains upbeat. McCaul shared details of a recent phone call with the congresswoman.

“She’s got a lot of energy for someone her age,” he said. “She told me she’s eager to get back home to the United States. She’s in good spirits and determined to recover quickly.”

Pelosi’s spokesperson confirmed her surgery was successful and that she is receiving excellent care.

Nancy Pelosi’s decades-long political career has cemented her as a pivotal figure in American politics. Serving her 19th term in the House of Representatives, she led House Democrats for over 20 years and still wields significant influence within the party.

Recently, Pelosi has been linked to efforts to pressure President Biden to step aside ahead of the 2024 election, as well as opposing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s bid for a leadership role on the House Oversight Committee.

While she passed the leadership mantle to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries two years ago, Pelosi remains a force to be reckoned with.

The fall may have sidelined Pelosi temporarily, but those who know her expect a swift recovery. “She’s resilient,” McCaul said. “She’s always been a fighter—on and off the political stage.”

The former Speaker’s determination to continue her work, even amid challenges, underscores her enduring commitment to public service.

  1. Hey Nutty Nancy, you had a good fall, hope you have the same for winter. You screwed up the whole country and our citizens for decades. Let’s make some term limits, huh?

  2. I’m not a fan of Pelosi; however, I would never wish ill will on anyone! Nancy, however, should know better than to wear VERY high heels and walk downstairs without a banister. What a price to pay for vanity! I also think she was courageous to stand up and take the photo with her companions; after all, she did attend!
