Pastor Collapses Mid-Sermon Sparking Panic and Prayers

In a moment that sent shockwaves through his congregation and across the internet, Bishop T.D. Jakes—one of the most influential spiritual leaders in the world—suffered a sudden health crisis on stage Sunday during an electrifying sermon at The Potter’s House megachurch in Dallas.

The packed sanctuary fell silent as the 66-year-old pastor, known for his fiery preaching and larger-than-life presence, faltered at the end of his hour-long message. Jakes lowered his microphone, visibly shuddered, and appeared on the verge of collapse before being surrounded by staff and congregants who rushed to his aid.

Video of the incident quickly spread online, drawing an outpouring of prayers from admirers and church leaders worldwide. Within hours, The Potter’s House released a statement confirming that the iconic pastor had received immediate medical attention and was in stable condition.

“Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a health incident following a powerful hour-long message,” the statement read. “He is now stable and under the care of medical professionals. We are overwhelmed by the flood of love and prayers from around the globe.”

However, questions remain unanswered. The church has not revealed the cause of the incident or whether Jakes required hospitalization, leaving his followers anxious for more details.

Adding to the drama, Jakes’ family took to social media late Sunday night to provide an emotional update.

“Today could have been tragic, but by the mercy of God, it wasn’t,” said Toure Roberts, Jakes’ son-in-law and co-pastor of ONE | A Potter’s House Church in Los Angeles. “Bishop is strong—so strong, in fact, that we’re trying to get him to rest. We can’t thank everyone enough for the prayers.”

Jakes’ daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, shared a heartfelt plea: “This is a wake-up call to cherish the ones you love. I’m so grateful my father is improving.”

For decades, Bishop Jakes has been a towering figure in the faith community, leading a congregation of over 30,000 at The Potter’s House, which he founded in 1996. Beyond his ministry, he has counseled U.S. presidents, headlined global conferences, and written bestselling books that have touched millions.

His dramatic health scare has prompted a tidal wave of support, with over 2,000 messages flooding The Potter’s House Facebook page. Prominent figures, including Pastor Frederick Haynes of Friendship-West Baptist Church, offered prayers for Jakes’ recovery.

“Bishop Jakes is irreplaceable—a spiritual giant whose work has transformed lives worldwide,” Haynes said in a statement.

As the faithful await further updates, the incident has reignited conversations about the pressures faced by prominent pastors like Jakes, who often sacrifice their own well-being to serve others.

For many, this close call is a sobering reminder of the humanity behind the pulpit. One commenter summed up the collective sentiment: “Even the strongest warriors need time to heal. Praying for our Bishop.”

As prayers continue to pour in from every corner of the globe, the world holds its breath for the recovery of a man who has so often been a source of strength and hope for others.
