Former Baywatch star Nicole Eggert is opening up about the devastating financial toll of her cancer battle, revealing that the disease not only threatened her health but also left her struggling to support her family as her income disappeared.
The 54-year-old actress, best known for playing Summer Quinn on the hit 1990s lifeguard drama, told Fox News Digital that her grueling treatment schedule made it nearly impossible to work. With medical appointments consuming three to five days a week, Eggert could no longer commit to acting jobs, even as her household expenses and medical costs continued to mount.
“I had to completely come to the realization that I wasn’t gonna have income,” she admitted, describing the overwhelming stress of watching bills pile up while fighting for her health.
As a single mother, Eggert faced an especially frightening reality. While her oldest daughter, Dilyn, is now independent, her teenage daughter, Keegan, still relies on her financially. The actress remained responsible for everything from housing and groceries to transportation and medical expenses.
Eggert described feeling financially overwhelmed, admitting that even basic necessities became a source of anxiety.
Her ordeal began in December 2023, when she was diagnosed with stage 2 cribriform carcinoma, a rare form of breast cancer. She had initially dismissed unexplained weight gain and pain in her left breast as possible signs of menopause, only to discover that a growing tumor was behind some of the changes.
What followed was a lengthy battle involving chemotherapy, radiation and two separate mastectomies. Eggert underwent breast reconstruction in August 2025, but her medical challenges were far from over.
In March 2026, the actress revealed she had undergone a full hysterectomy after doctors detected what she described as early signs of additional cancer. The frightening development came despite her announcement months earlier that she had reached “no evidence of disease” status.
Fortunately, Eggert has continued reporting encouraging results from her ongoing cancer monitoring, although she acknowledges the uncertainty that comes with surviving the disease.
Now, after nearly three years of medical treatments and major life changes, the former Charles in Charge actress is looking toward a future that includes returning to work and reclaiming her independence.
She has also become an outspoken advocate for breast cancer awareness, encouraging women to pay attention to changes in their bodies and seek regular screenings.

In October, Eggert shared an uplifting video of herself dancing in her car to music by Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg, celebrating how far she has come.
But her latest revelation highlights a painful reality often overlooked in conversations about serious illnesses: Even when the medical outlook improves, the financial consequences can linger.
For Eggert, the experience has reinforced the importance of accepting support from others rather than trying to manage everything alone.
“You really have to find your community,” she said, urging others facing similar struggles to ask for help.
And while she is grateful for her recovery, Eggert makes clear that surviving cancer has meant rebuilding more than just her health.
