“I Dream of Jeannie” legend Barbara Eden abruptly canceled a highly anticipated film festival appearance after falling ill, sparking concern among fans of the 95-year-old television icon.

Eden had been scheduled to appear Saturday night at the Cinecon Classic Film Festival, where she was set to receive the Cinecon Legacy Award. But just hours before the event, organizers announced that she would no longer be attending in person because of a “sudden illness.”

“We’re sorry to share that, due to a sudden illness, Barbara Eden will no longer be able to appear in person at Cinecon tonight,” the Cinecon 62 Classic Film Festival announced on Facebook.

Organizers said Eden was deeply disappointed by the last-minute cancellation and had been looking forward to celebrating with fans.

“Barbara is deeply regretful that she had to cancel at the last minute, as she had been very much looking forward to seeing everyone and celebrating with us,” the festival said.

“We know how many of you were excited to welcome Barbara. We appreciate your understanding and join you in sending her our best wishes for a speedy recovery.”

No details have been released about Eden’s illness or the severity of her condition.

Despite her absence, the festival went ahead with plans to honor the beloved actress. Her longtime friend and former co-star Pat Boone, 92, accepted the Cinecon Legacy Award on her behalf.

Eden and Boone appeared together in the films “All Hands on Deck” and “The Yellow Canary.”

Eden’s representatives have not publicly commented on her condition.

The sudden cancellation comes as the Hollywood veteran continues to be celebrated for a remarkable career spanning more than seven decades.

Eden became a television sensation playing the magical and mischievous Jeannie opposite Larry Hagman’s Major Anthony Nelson on NBC’s “I Dream of Jeannie.”

The classic sitcom aired for five seasons from 1965 to 1970 and produced 139 episodes, turning Eden into one of the most recognizable TV stars of her generation.

Even well into her 90s, Eden has remained active and has previously spoken about the habits she believes helped keep her healthy.

In a 2024 interview with Fox News, the actress said she once maintained a much more intense workout routine.

“I used to work out all the time,” Eden said.

She explained that she previously took spinning classes and trained with weights before the COVID pandemic disrupted her routine.

These days, Eden said she stays active with a stationary bicycle and light five-pound weights, noting that strength exercises are good for maintaining healthy bones.

Eden has been married to architect Jon Eicholtz since 1991.

She was previously married to actor Michael Ansara, with whom she shared her only child, Matthew Ansara.

Matthew tragically died from a heroin overdose in 2001.
