Dolly Parton spent nearly 60 years married to the same man, but behind the country legend’s picture-perfect love story were rumors, confessions and alleged affairs that followed her for decades.

The “Jolene” singer was reportedly devastated by the death of her longtime husband, Carl Thomas Dean, who died in March 2025 at age 82. Parton herself later died on August 25 at age 80.

But throughout their extraordinary marriage, Parton was remarkably candid about the unusual rules that helped keep their relationship alive.

She once revealed that she and Dean had no problem with harmless flirting outside their marriage.

“It’s very healthy for the both of us,” Parton said of flirting with other people.

And in a stunning 1984 admission, the country superstar suggested she had occasionally crossed the line.

“I’ve had my little affairs,” she confessed at the time. “I’ve been tempted many times, and I admit I’ve given in more than once — but not as many times as people believe.”

One of the most explosive rumors surrounded Parton’s handsome security chief, Mark Kiracofe.

Kiracofe reportedly joined Parton’s team as head of security in 1989, and insiders later claimed the two quietly became romantically involved.

According to sources speaking at the time, Parton and Kiracofe were extremely careful about hiding any signs of affection while traveling together.

“They are just very, very discreet about the whole thing,” one insider claimed.

The source alleged that Parton and Kiracofe would book separate hotel rooms while on the road, although those rooms were reportedly often next to each other.

The rumored relationship allegedly lasted for roughly six years and eventually became serious enough that Kiracofe reportedly forced Parton to make a choice.

Sources claimed that in 1996, the security guard gave the singer an ultimatum: him or Dean.

Still, some people close to the singer reportedly believed Kiracofe occupied a special place in her heart.

Parton said she thought the woman was beautiful, remembering her peroxide-blonde hair, high heels and tight skirts.

“I thought she was the prettiest thing I’d ever seen,” Parton recalled.

Her signature wigs came about after years of trying to maintain heavily teased and bleached natural hair.

Parton said her first hairstylist, Colleen Owens, helped introduce her to wigs early in her career after repeated bleaching left her hair damaged and breaking.

“I used to try to keep my own hair teased as big as I like it, and having the bleach and all of that, it just broke off,” Parton explained.

Eventually, she decided wigs were simply easier.

“It was handy to have several looks that I could just choose from, and never have a bad hair day,” she said.

At one point, Parton reportedly owned around 350 wigs — nearly enough to wear a different one every day of the year.

Several of those famous hairpieces later went on display at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort & Spa near the theme park she founded in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Dean apparently enjoyed poking fun at his wife’s enormous hair as much as anyone.

Parton once revealed that her husband joked the combination of her tiny frame and massive blonde wigs made her look like a giant cotton swab.

“When I wear this big hair, because I’m so tiny, my husband always says I look like a Q-tip,” Parton joked.

“It’s nothing but a big white wad on my head!”
