A new claim is fueling fresh speculation in the baffling disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, nearly seven months after the 84-year-old mother of “Today” star Savannah Guthrie vanished from her Arizona home.
Nancy disappeared from her Tucson-area residence on February 1, with investigators saying they believe she was abducted.
Despite an enormous investigation, disturbing surveillance footage and DNA evidence being sent to the FBI, authorities have yet to publicly name a suspect or reveal what happened to her.
Now, an independent YouTuber who has been closely following the case says a plumber may have been at Nancy’s home roughly a week before she disappeared.
YouTube streamer Mark the Shark said a source told him the unidentified worker had reportedly been doing plumbing work at the property shortly before the suspected kidnapping.
“One of my sources stated that a plumber was reportedly working at Nancy Guthrie’s home about a week before her disappearance,” he wrote on X, before asking whether the alleged visit could be significant.
The claim has not been confirmed by law enforcement, and there is currently no public evidence linking any plumber or home repair worker to Nancy’s disappearance.
Still, the timing has caught the attention of online sleuths because investigators have already revealed that a mysterious masked man was seen around Nancy’s property.
Doorbell camera footage released during the investigation showed a masked individual on Nancy’s porch appearing to tamper with the camera.
NewsNation also previously obtained images reportedly showing a masked man in the area days before Nancy vanished, raising questions about whether the elderly woman may have been watched or targeted ahead of time.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not publicly confirmed whether any contractors, repair workers or service employees visited Nancy’s home in the days leading up to her disappearance.
The plumber claim comes as another theory recently exploded across social media.
Earlier this week, amateur investigators began questioning whether an Arizona murder suspect could possibly be the mysterious masked man dubbed the “Porch Guy.”
On August 21, authorities issued an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Alex James Barnett in connection with the killing of Tucson Police Cadet Carlos Ramirez.
Internet sleuths quickly began comparing Barnett’s wanted photo with images of the masked person seen near Nancy’s home.
Some users claimed they noticed similarities, although authorities have offered no evidence connecting the two cases.
Barnett was arrested August 24 following a tense three-hour standoff at an apartment complex on Tucson’s east side.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not suggested Barnett played any role in Nancy’s disappearance.
For now, the mystery surrounding Nancy remains unsolved.
Investigators have previously sent DNA evidence to the FBI laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, while continuing to analyze video and other evidence connected to the case.
But nearly seven months after Nancy vanished, her whereabouts remain unknown — and every new detail continues to spark questions about who may have been watching her home before she disappeared.
