Hayden Panettiere was found dead inside a South Carolina apartment after an acquaintance discovered the actress unresponsive and called 911, according to police.

The former “Heroes” and “Nashville” star was just 36.

Emergency crews rushed to the apartment complex in Greenville on Sunday, Aug. 16, following a report of an “unresponsive female” who appeared to be in cardiac arrest.

The 911 call reportedly came in at around 1:15 p.m.

Paramedics immediately began trying to save Panettiere, reportedly using advanced cardiac life support measures as they desperately attempted to revive her.

Despite those efforts, the actress was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m.

Police say the person who found Panettiere and made the emergency call was an “acquaintance,” though authorities have not publicly identified that individual.

As news of the shocking death spread, questions quickly mounted over what happened during Panettiere’s final hours.

Greenville police said their preliminary investigation has not uncovered any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.

An autopsy is expected to determine Panettiere’s official cause of death.

It also remained unclear exactly why the actress was in Greenville.

Reports indicated Panettiere had been traveling over the weekend with her on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson.

The couple’s turbulent relationship had made headlines for years, but authorities have given no indication that Hickerson was involved in Panettiere’s death.

Panettiere’s representative confirmed the devastating news in a statement, remembering the actress as someone who made a lasting impact both on the people around her and on millions of fans.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” the statement said.

“She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”

Panettiere became a familiar face to American audiences at a young age before breaking out as cheerleader Claire Bennet on NBC’s hit superhero drama “Heroes.”

She later starred as troubled country singer Juliette Barnes on ABC and CMT’s “Nashville,” a role that earned her widespread praise and multiple Golden Globe nominations.

Her movie credits also included “Remember the Titans,” “Racing Stripes,” “Bring It On: All or Nothing” and the “Scream” franchise.

Behind the scenes, however, Panettiere had publicly discussed years of personal struggles, including addiction and postpartum depression.

She is survived by her 11-year-old daughter, Kaya Evdokia Klitschko, whom she shared with former fiancé and retired heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko.

While receiving treatment for postpartum depression and addiction in 2018, Panettiere made the heartbreaking decision for Kaya to live full-time with her father in Europe.

Just months before her death, the actress spoke candidly about why she believed allowing her daughter to remain overseas was the best choice.

“If I fight, if I go to war about this, it’s going to permanently damage my child,” Panettiere told Fox News.

She said she ultimately decided to put Kaya’s stability first.

“I said, ‘You know what? Let her grow up here.’ I know she’s safe. I know she’s well taken care of,” Panettiere explained.

“And I also knew that there would be a day when she would come back to me.”

Now, investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy as they work to determine exactly what caused the actress’ sudden death.

For now, police say there is no indication of foul play.
