Harrison Ford, 84, Makes Shock Indiana Jones Announcement (Video)

Harrison Ford may have hung up Indiana Jones’ fedora on the big screen, but Disney isn’t finished with the legendary adventurer just yet.

At 84, Ford is officially stepping back into the world of Indy for a new Walt Disney World attraction — and this version of the character could be around long after the actor himself leaves Hollywood behind.

Ford revealed over the weekend that Disney will use him as the real-life model for an Indiana Jones animatronic being created for Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, an upcoming attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida.

“Fear of snakes included,” Ford joked in an Instagram announcement, confirming that he would be “the actual model” for the new figure.

“I’m excited for you to see his next epic adventure,” he added.

The attraction will mark yet another chapter for one of the most recognizable characters in movie history.

Ford first cracked the whip as archaeologist Indiana Jones more than four decades ago and went on to play the character across five films. Now Disney is effectively giving Indy a sixth adventure — only this time, theme park guests will be watching an animatronic Ford instead of the flesh-and-blood movie star.

For longtime fans, the announcement quickly turned emotional.

“Having Harrison Ford living forever through this attraction was the best decision,” one fan wrote beneath Disney’s Instagram post.

“This makes me tear up knowing his legacy will forever be enshrined,” another added.

A third declared, “Harrison, you’re the only Indiana Jones! Nobody but you can play our beloved archeologist.”

The excitement is understandable. Ford has become so closely tied to the fedora, leather jacket and bullwhip that many fans have struggled to imagine anyone else taking over the role.

Disney, meanwhile, could probably use a little Indiana Jones magic.

The franchise’s most recent movie, 2023’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, carried a massive budget but struggled at the box office, becoming one of Disney’s most costly disappointments despite bringing Ford back for one final cinematic adventure.

The new Animal Kingdom attraction now gives the company another chance to put Indy in front of a huge audience — without having to gamble hundreds of millions of dollars on another movie.

And for Ford’s devoted fans, the biggest attraction may not even be the ride itself.

It may simply be knowing that somewhere inside Walt Disney World, Indiana Jones will still look exactly like Harrison Ford — fedora, smirk, snakes and all.
