A Walmart employee who launched a terrifying knife attack on a female co-worker in the middle of her shift has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, all because he believed she had disrespected him.
Kelvin Fuller, 20, admitted to attacking the woman behind the deli counter at a Walmart Supercenter in Collinsville, Illinois, on July 23, 2025. The sudden violence sent employees and customers rushing to help as the injured woman desperately tried to escape.
The disturbing incident unfolded around 2 p.m. while the victim, reportedly a newer employee, was speaking with another co-worker. According to court documents cited by KSDK, Fuller approached her from behind and attacked her with a knife, inflicting multiple wounds before she managed to break free.
Investigators later learned that Fuller had brought a knife and black gloves to work that day. He admitted putting on the gloves before approaching the woman, raising chilling questions about how much of the attack had been planned.
What makes the case even more disturbing is what Fuller reportedly told police afterward. He believed the woman had “disrespected” him during a shift and acknowledged that he continued attacking her even after the initial injury.
According to court records, Fuller estimated that he stabbed the victim approximately five times and admitted he did not believe she would survive. Investigators also alleged that he continued looking for her after she escaped his grasp.
The woman suffered serious injuries requiring multiple surgeries, but survived the ordeal. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the frightening moments as employees and shoppers rushed to intervene, potentially preventing the attack from becoming fatal.
Fuller fled the store during the commotion but was arrested nearby by Collinsville police.
More than a year later, the case reached its conclusion when Fuller pleaded guilty to attempted murder, a Class X felony under Illinois law. On October 27, 2026, he received a 25-year prison sentence.
Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine praised the quick-thinking bystanders whose actions may have saved the woman’s life.
“A workplace should be a place where people can do their jobs without fear of being attacked,” Haine said, adding that the employees and customers who intervened “may have prevented an even greater tragedy.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Stewart following an investigation by the Collinsville Police Department.
For the woman who survived the terrifying encounter, what began as an ordinary afternoon at work turned into a fight for her life. For Fuller, his admitted decision to respond to perceived disrespect with violence has now resulted in a quarter-century prison sentence.
