William Shatner is speaking out about the terrifying cancer battle he kept private — and the shocking diagnosis has left fans rattled.

The Star Trek legend, now 95, revealed he was diagnosed with stage four malignant melanoma in June 2023 after a lump on his cheek turned out to be far more serious than doctors first believed. Even more heartbreaking, Shatner’s daughter, Melanie, was already fighting her own stage four cancer battle at the same time.

The stunning confession has sparked fresh concern among longtime fans, many of whom fear the beloved actor’s health scare may be a sign that his “days are numbered,” despite his insistence that he is now doing better.

Shatner said the frightening ordeal began when he noticed a lump on his face. At first, doctors reportedly believed it was a blocked salivary gland and advised him to massage it. Melanie endured 18 months of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and 30 rounds of radiation therapy. As she was nearing the end of her treatment, her father received his own terrifying diagnosis.

“I remember vividly thinking, ‘I don’t have the strength to take care of myself and lose my father at the same time,’” Melanie said.

A source close to the family said the situation naturally alarmed those around Shatner because of his age and the severity of the illness.

“He kept working and moving forward,” she said.

Now, in a remarkable turn, both William and Melanie have been declared cancer-free. The father and daughter are also launching a podcast together to share their cancer journeys and discuss what it took to survive two advanced diagnoses inside one family.
