Prince Harry’s latest attempt to repair his shattered relationship with King Charles has set off fresh alarm bells inside royal circles, with one prominent royal insider warning the monarch may be putting his emotions ahead of the Crown’s future.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, reportedly reunited privately with his father, King Charles III, 77, at Highgrove House on July 10, along with Meghan Markle, 44, and the couple’s two children. The meeting was described as an effort to thaw years of bitter tension after Harry and Meghan’s dramatic exit from royal life.

But not everyone is celebrating the supposed peace offering.

Royal author Robert Jobson has branded the reunion a potentially “dangerous” move, warning that Charles’ desire to heal old wounds with his younger son could create serious problems for Prince William, the future king.

Speaking on The Royalist podcast, Jobson said the King may understandably want to end the “bad blood” with Harry, especially as he continues dealing with cancer and the realities of advancing age. Still, the royal commentator argued that Charles is not simply a father trying to make peace with an estranged child.

He is the King.

And according to Jobson, that means his first duty is to the monarchy — and to William, 44, who will one day inherit the throne.

“He obviously wants to make sure that — we don’t know, and he doesn’t know — how long he’s got in this world,” Jobson said, referring to Charles. “He has a finite amount of time, of course he does.”

Jobson added that Charles likely wants to have certain conversations before it is too late.

“I’m sure he wants to complete his life having had the conversations he wants to have,” he explained. “I understand that, and I can appreciate that it’s something on his mind.”

But the royal expert warned that Charles’ personal feelings may now be “muddying the waters” for William, who is preparing for the day he becomes king.

“He is the King, and his responsibility is not to his second son,” Jobson said. “It is to his first son, and his first son is his heir.”

The warning comes after years of public attacks from Harry and Meghan against the royal family, including the couple’s explosive Oprah Winfrey interview, their Netflix series, and Harry’s memoir Spare, which laid bare private family feuds and deepened the rift with William.

Jobson said Harry and Meghan have been “incredibly aggressive in their attacks” on the British system and the monarchy since stepping away from royal duties in 2020.

The couple left the United Kingdom for a new life in California, but their departure came with one major condition set by Queen Elizabeth II: there would be no “half-in, half-out” royal arrangement.

That rule meant Harry and Meghan could not enjoy the perks of royal life while choosing which duties they wanted to perform.

Jobson said the late Queen understood the danger of blurring that line, especially for William and Kate Middleton, whose family represents the future of the monarchy.

“They may well want to come and go as they please,” Jobson said, “but Queen Elizabeth II was very clear that there could not be a half-in, half-out arrangement because it muddies the waters and makes things increasingly difficult, particularly for the heir to the throne, the Prince of Wales, and his family, who are the future of the monarchy.”

The timing of Harry’s reported return to the royal fold has also raised eyebrows.

After six years in Montecito, California, Harry has faced questions about his public role, his brand, and what exactly his future looks like outside the palace walls.

During a recent podcast appearance taped around his visit to England, the prince was asked about his occupation. His answer immediately drew attention.

“Full-time dad, British Army veteran, Prince of England, Duke,” Harry replied.

The phrase “Prince of England” raised more than a few eyebrows, especially since Harry is no longer a working royal and has spent years openly criticizing the institution that gave him his title.

Jobson suggested Harry may now be trying to edge closer to Charles again because he needs the royal connection to remain relevant.

“Because he needs money, because he needs his brand, and because he needs exposure, he’s sucking up to his father again,” Jobson alleged.

The bigger issue, according to Jobson, is what Harry’s return could mean for William.

The brothers have reportedly been estranged for years, and their relationship was badly damaged by Harry’s public claims about life inside the royal family. William is said to have been deeply hurt by the Sussexes’ comments, particularly those involving Kate and the Wales children.

Now, with Charles apparently open to a private reconciliation, royal watchers are asking whether Harry could be allowed back into the family’s orbit — and whether that would undermine William’s position.

Jobson did not mince words.

“To me, that’s a very dangerous situation,” he said.

He argued that Charles must remember he is not merely acting as Harry’s father or as a grandfather to Archie and Lilibet.

“His father has to realize he’s not just ‘Pa.’ He’s not just Grandpa,” Jobson warned. “He’s the King. He’s there as a guardian and steward of the Crown for his other son, Prince William, who is the heir to the throne.”

Jobson then delivered his starkest warning yet.

“I think we’re in quite dangerous waters at the moment, the monarchy,” he said.

For Charles, the situation is painfully personal. For William, it could be a constitutional headache. And for Harry, it may be the clearest sign yet that even after years of distance, accusations, and palace drama, the royal door may not be completely closed.

But if Jobson is right, Charles may have to choose between healing his family and protecting the future of the Crown.

And in royal life, the Crown almost always comes first.
