Two People Critically Injured After Gunfire Erupts Inside Krogers

A normal afternoon grocery run turned into a scene of panic and bloodshed after gunfire broke out inside a Kroger store in Cypress, Texas, leaving two people critically injured and terrified shoppers running for cover.

The shooting happened around 2:50 p.m. at the Kroger in the 20300 block of Cypresswood Drive, according to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.

Authorities said they received multiple calls reporting shots fired inside the store. Deputies arrived within minutes and found one wounded man walking out of the Kroger. When they entered the store, they discovered a second man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Both men were rushed to area hospitals in critical condition.

Captain Juan Flores said investigators believe the violence stemmed from a domestic dispute and that the two wounded men were the only people directly involved.

“It doesn’t appear we have an outstanding individual, we believe we have all parties involved,” Flores said.

No other shoppers or employees appeared to be injured, though witnesses described a terrifying scene as the shots rang out in the middle of the busy store.

Chace Zawacki said he had just walked inside when the chaos began.

“There was this male in yellow about 50 yards ahead of me and he goes in this door and I’m about at the doors where I hear a loud boom and a couple seconds go by and I hear almost a couple more booms,” Zawacki said.

Another shopper, Patrick Young, was already inside the store when he heard the gunfire.

“Pop pop pop and I just turned around and ran the opposite direction of the gunfire and out through the front door along with multiple other people,” Young said. “There were old ladies trying to scramble. There were terrified kids.”

According to the report, the suspected shooter suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and was taken to a nearby hospital by first responders.

Zawacki said he later saw another man being wheeled out of the Kroger on a stretcher.

“About 30 minutes later, another male comes out on a stretcher and it looks like he has blood all over him,” he said.

Young was furious that gunfire erupted in a public place filled with families and everyday shoppers.

“If you’re out in the world and you are blasting guns with old ladies and kids and women around, you’re a piece of s*** coward,” Young said.

Detectives were sent to the scene to continue the investigation and review store surveillance video as authorities work to determine exactly what led up to the shooting.
