A crew member aboard Princess Cruises’ Regal Princess has died after going overboard off the coast of Cancún, Mexico, forcing the massive ship to pause its Caribbean voyage while authorities searched the water.

The incident happened July 13, according to Princess Cruises.

The worker, whose identity has not been released, was later found dead. The cruise line has not disclosed the crew member’s age, job title, or how they ended up in the water.

Princess Cruises said foul play is not suspected.

The company also thanked local maritime authorities and crew members from Carnival Jubilee for helping with the search-and-recovery operation.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the crew’s family and friends during this difficult time,” Princess Cruises said in a statement.

The Regal Princess is a 19-deck ship that can carry up to 3,560 passengers and 1,346 crew members. The vessel had been on a seven-day Caribbean sailing when the tragedy unfolded.

After the recovery operation, the ship resumed its voyage.

One port stop was adjusted because of the incident, but Princess Cruises said the Regal Princess is still expected to return to Fort Lauderdale as scheduled on Saturday.

The cruise line has not released any additional details about what happened before the crew member went overboard.
