Legendary Singer Bonnie Tyler Wakes from Coma After More Than a Month

Bonnie Tyler has reportedly woken up from a coma after a serious health scare that left fans around the world fearing for the beloved singer.

The 75-year-old music legend, best known for her powerhouse 1983 hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” remains hospitalized in Faro, Portugal, but her condition has improved.

A representative for Tyler told The Sun that “Bonnie is no longer in a coma, but remains seriously ill.”

The Welsh singer, famous for her unmistakable raspy voice, still has a difficult recovery ahead. However, doctors are reportedly optimistic and expect her to make a full recovery.

The frightening ordeal began in May, when Tyler was hospitalized in Portugal, where she owns a home, and underwent emergency intestinal surgery.

At the time, a statement posted to her website said the surgery had gone well and that she was recuperating.

“We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery,” the statement said.

Days later, her manager, Matt Davis, confirmed that Tyler had been placed in an induced coma to help her body recover.

“Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery,” Davis told Entertainment Weekly. “We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please.”

Additional reports claimed the singer suffered cardiac arrest after doctors attempted to bring her out of the precautionary coma.

Now, the latest update has brought hope to fans who have followed her decades-long career.

Tyler first rose to fame in the 1970s and became one of music’s most recognizable voices with hits including “It’s a Heartache,” “Holding Out for a Hero,” and “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”

Her most recent album, The Best Is Yet to Come, was released in 2021, and she had remained active on the touring circuit in recent years.

Tyler last performed in London in March and had been scheduled to continue performing through May before her medical emergency forced her to cancel appearances.
