A young McDonald’s manager in California is fighting through unimaginable pain after police say a coworker threw hot oil on him in a shocking workplace attack.

Jacob Smith, 20, was rushed to the hospital after suffering third-degree burns to his face, neck, hands and shoulders in the disturbing incident at a McDonald’s in Yuba City.

Police said the alleged attack happened on May 30 after Smith and his coworker, 23-year-old Jalani Bluett, finished their shift.

According to authorities, Bluett allegedly threw hot oil on Smith, leaving the young employee with severe injuries that now require specialized treatment at UC Davis Medical Center.

Smith’s mother, Amber Smith, said her son was a manager at the restaurant and had been working hard to build a bright future for himself. He is also engaged.

Now, instead of focusing on his wedding plans and career, Smith is facing a long and painful recovery.

Amber said her son remains in good spirits despite the terrifying ordeal.

“My son has an amazing spirit and in the midst of all of this has been positive and trying to make us feel better,” she said.

She added that the alleged attack appeared to come out of nowhere.

“It was just so random of a thing,” Amber said. “He’s a really good kid and it’s not just because he’s my son, he’s just a really good kid and has a good positive spirit about him.”

Smith is expected to undergo more surgeries next week, including a skin graft, as doctors continue treating his severe burns.

His family has launched an online fundraiser to help cover medical costs and other expenses as he recovers.

After the incident, police said Bluett was reported missing before he was eventually located and taken into custody days later.

Bluett was booked into the Sutter County Jail and is facing a charge of battery causing serious bodily injury.

Meanwhile, Smith’s loved ones say they are leaning on faith, family and support from the community as the young man begins the long road back from the devastating attack.
