Ever After Star Patrick Godfrey Dead at 93

Patrick Godfrey, the beloved British actor best known to American audiences for playing Leonardo da Vinci in Ever After: A Cinderella Story, has died. He was 93.

Godfrey passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, surrounded by his family, according to a statement from his talent agency.

“Paddy was an exceptionally talented actor and a remarkable individual, and we will miss him greatly,” the agency said.

A cause of death has not been revealed.

Godfrey’s death marks the end of a remarkable acting career that stretched across nearly seven decades. While many fans remember him fondly for his charming turn as Leonardo da Vinci in the 1998 Drew Barrymore classic Ever After, his work went far beyond the fan-favorite Cinderella retelling.

The veteran actor built a long and impressive résumé filled with period dramas, literary adaptations, stage work, musicals, and television roles.

He appeared in the 1986 Oscar-winning romance A Room with a View, the 1993 drama The Remains of the Day, the 2002 adventure film The Count of Monte Cristo, and the 2012 movie musical Les Misérables.

Godfrey also made his mark on the small screen, appearing in well-known shows including Doctor Who and Inspector Morse.

To generations of movie lovers, however, he will always be remembered as the wise and witty da Vinci who helped bring magic, heart, and humor to Ever After.

Godfrey was 93.
