Elderly Man Killed by Tree in Freak Accident at NYC Park

An 85-year-old man was killed in a horrifying freak accident after a tree came crashing down on him inside a Queens park, police said.

The shocking incident happened Saturday night inside Forest Park, just after powerful storms swept through New York City with rain and heavy winds.

Police said officers rushed to the park shortly after 8:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a person struck by a tree.

When cops arrived, they found the elderly man unconscious. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has not yet been publicly identified.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the deadly accident was directly caused by the stormy weather that hit the Big Apple Saturday night. However, the same round of rough weather reportedly knocked down several trees in Forest Park.

Photos from the scene showed emergency crews and police vehicles inside the dark wooded park as investigators worked to piece together what happened.

The NYPD said the investigation remains ongoing.

The tragic death comes after several frightening tree-related accidents across New York.

On Memorial Day, a 49-year-old woman was injured in the Bronx after she was struck by a falling tree near East 176th Street and Clay Avenue in Mount Hope. Police later blamed wet weather for that incident.

In February, a child and a nun were nearly crushed when a tree toppled near the Sisters of Life and Sacred Heart Convent in Hell’s Kitchen as Winter Storm Hernando moved out of the area.

Last year, twin 6-year-old sisters Emily and Kenni Bisson were killed in their sleep in upstate New York when a tree crashed onto their Clark Mills home during heavy rain and an EF-1 tornado.

The Queens tragedy has left another family grieving after what should have been an ordinary walk in the park turned deadly in an instant.
