A routine school morning turned chaotic in Florida when a packed bus carrying dozens of high school students was suddenly rear-ended by a pickup truck — and the driver didn’t stick around to face the consequences.
The crash unfolded around 8:30 a.m. on April 13 near Southeast 145th Street and Southeast 38th Terrace in Summerfield, according to reports from local outlets. Officials say the bus had just been stopping to pick up students when a white, blue, and orange pickup truck plowed into the back of it.
At the time, there were 54 students from Belleview High School on board — a terrifying moment for teens expecting just another normal ride to class.
In the aftermath, multiple students were hurt. School officials say nine teens were taken to a nearby hospital, while law enforcement reports indicate at least five were transported. Either way, the injuries appear to be minor, with students suffering scrapes and bruises.
Assistant principal Brad Jones said EMS crews evaluated the injured students at the scene before sending them to the hospital out of an abundance of caution.
But the most alarming part? The driver responsible for the crash allegedly fled immediately after impact — leaving behind a bus full of shaken students and a growing investigation.
Florida Highway Patrol is now actively searching for the pickup truck involved and urging anyone with information to come forward.
For now, what should have been a routine school day has turned into yet another reminder of how quickly things can spiral — and how dangerous hit-and-run crashes can be when lives are on the line.
