Prince George is destined to sit on the throne one day, but it seems the young royal might have other ambitions before then.
According to the Daily Mail, Desmond MacCarthy, owner of Norfolk’s Wiveton Hall Cafe, shared a charming anecdote about George’s recent visit. While being shown the cafe’s wood-fired pizza oven, the 11-year-old prince reportedly declared, “That’s what I want to do when I grow up!”
The future king was accompanied by his mother, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, during the trip, which took place near the family’s Sandringham estate, a favorite royal retreat during the holidays.
“He’s a sweet boy,” MacCarthy said, describing George’s visit. The Wales family’s fondness for pizza is no secret. George was even spotted enjoying a slice during a cricket match in July 2023. Princess Kate has also shared that her children, George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, love making pizza dough at home. In fact, in 2019, Kate revealed that one of her own favorite pizza toppings is bacon!
The family also enjoys cooking together. Kate mentioned during a 2018 visit to St. Luke’s Community Centre that making pizza is one of their favorite activities.
“I’ve done that with George and Charlotte,” she said, adding that the children love getting their hands messy while preparing the dough. And, in 2019, during a visit to Lavender Primary School, Kate shared how much her children enjoy cooking. “They made cheesy pasta the other day,” the headmaster recalled her saying. “One stirs the flour, one adds the milk and butter.”
While George might dream of a future in pizza-making, unfortunately, the Wiveton Hall Cafe won’t be part of that vision—it’s set to close next month after 17 years in business. Still, George has time to explore other passions.
In fact, he’s shown a particular interest in flying. Prince William recently told guests at a Buckingham Palace garden party that George is a “potential pilot in the making” and has already taken an interest in flying lessons.
Although George’s path to the throne is set, it seems he may enjoy a greater degree of freedom in pursuing personal interests than previous generations.
As Robert Hardman noted in King Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story, Prince William has been determined to offer his son more autonomy than King Charles was afforded. George may indeed have more freedom to explore his passions before stepping into full-time royal duties.
