It is with heavy hearts that we report the passing of American Pickers star Frank Fritz at the age of 58, following a difficult two-year battle after suffering a stroke. His long-time co-host and friend, Mike Wolfe, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, confirming that Fritz died on September 30, 2024.
Wolfe, 60, expressed his sorrow in a moving tribute: “It’s with a broken heart that I share with all of you that Frank passed away last night. I’ve known Frank for more than half my life, and what people saw on TV was the same man I knew—a dreamer, sensitive and funny. He had a way of touching people’s hearts by just being himself.”
Wolfe fondly reflected on their time together on American Pickers, the popular History Channel show where the duo traveled across the country in search of historic treasures. “Before the show, we’d take off with no destination, just a shared passion to discover something interesting and historic. Frank was always up for an adventure.”
Wolfe continued, “We’ve shared so many trips and memories, and I feel blessed to have been there when he took his final journey home. I love you, buddy. I’ll miss you so much, but I know you’re in a better place.”
Fritz’s manager, Bill Stankey, also shared a heartfelt statement, describing Frank as “an exceptional human being. He loved life, cared about people, and always had a kind word. Frank knew more about Americana and antiques than anyone I ever met. He was the anchor of American Pickers and will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and fans.”
While Fritz and Wolfe experienced their share of challenges in their friendship, they had recently reconnected. Wolfe was the one who shared the news of Fritz’s stroke in 2022, asking fans to keep his friend in their prayers.
“Now is the time to pray for my friend,” Wolfe had written at the time. “Frank has suffered a stroke and is in the hospital. Please keep him in your hearts and thoughts.”
Though Frank Fritz is no longer with us, his legacy as a lover of history, antiques, and adventure will live on. May he rest in peace.
