Reality star and singer Trina Braxton is mourning the death of her husband, Von Scales, who has died at the age of 58.
A representative for the Braxton family confirmed Scales’ death on Thursday, October 1, saying the family is devastated by the loss.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton,” the family said in a statement.
The family thanked fans for their support while asking for privacy as they grieve.
Scales reportedly died at around 2 a.m. Thursday in Atlanta, close to where he and Braxton lived.
Sources close to the family said he had been dealing with heart-related health problems before his death. However, an official cause of death has not been released, and the family has not publicly provided additional details about his final days.
Scales and Braxton married in December 2019 after meeting through a mutual friend.
Their relationship became familiar to viewers of the Braxton family’s reality television world, and their wedding was featured on Braxton Family Values.
Scales, a former college basketball player who later became a businessman, had said he initially did not realize just how famous the Braxton family was when he began dating Trina.
Their marriage came after an especially painful period in Braxton’s life.
Her former husband, Gabriel “Gabe” Solis, died in December 2018 following a battle with cancer. He was 43.
Braxton and Solis had been married from 2003 until their divorce in 2015. Despite the end of their marriage, Braxton later spoke openly about the emotional toll of his death and the support she received from Scales during that difficult period.
Braxton, 51, rose to fame alongside her sisters Toni, Tamar, Towanda and Traci Braxton.
She appeared for years on Braxton Family Values, which followed the personal and professional lives of the famous sisters and their mother, Evelyn.
Trina also performed with her sisters as part of The Braxtons before becoming widely known to reality TV audiences.
The latest loss brings another period of mourning for a family that has endured several tragedies in recent years.
Traci Braxton, Trina’s older sister, died in March 2022 at age 50 following a battle with esophageal cancer.
For now, the Braxton family has released few details surrounding Scales’ death and has asked the public to give Trina and her loved ones space to grieve.
No funeral or memorial arrangements had been publicly announced as of Thursday.
