Joy Behar, 83, Missing from ‘The View’ After Serious On-Set Injury

Joy Behar was missing from “The View” on Thursday after a backstage mishap left the longtime co-host with a dislocated shoulder.

The 83-year-old comedian apparently caught her heel while backstage at the ABC talk show, causing the injury and forcing her to sit out the Oct. 1 broadcast.

Behar’s representative said she is recovering and is already looking forward to returning to the Hot Topics table.

“Joy caught a heel backstage but is on the mend and should be back on the show mid next week,” her representative told Page Six.

The rep also offered some reassuring news about the injury, saying Behar did not break her shoulder.

“Her shoulder wasn’t broken and is back in place and she is excited to be back at the table as quickly as possible,” the spokesperson said.

Viewers learned what happened at the beginning of Thursday’s episode when Sunny Hostin addressed Behar’s noticeable absence.

Hostin explained that moderator Whoopi Goldberg was already away from the program while filming a movie before revealing that Behar had been injured.

“Unfortunately, our dear friend Joy dislocated her shoulder,” Hostin told the studio audience.

The announcement drew an audible reaction from the crowd.

Hostin quickly reassured viewers that Behar was recovering and expected to return.

“She’s recovering and will be back soon,” she said.

With both Goldberg and Behar away, Hostin found herself taking over the moderator’s chair.

She joked that producers apparently handed her the job because she was the “next oldest” member of the panel before quickly changing the description.

“Or, let’s say, seasoned,” Hostin joked. “I like seasoned better!”

Hostin was joined Thursday by regular co-hosts Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin, along with guest co-host Sherri Shepherd.

“This is a squad right here,” Farah Griffin said of the temporary lineup. “I like this.”

The injury comes just weeks into a major milestone season for “The View.”

ABC launched Season 30 of the daytime program in September, with Behar returning alongside Goldberg, Hostin, Haines, Farah Griffin and Navarro.

Behar has a particularly long history with the show.

She was part of the original lineup when Barbara Walters launched “The View” in 1997 and spent 16 years as a regular cast member before leaving in 2013. She later returned as a full-time co-host in 2015.

Her latest absence appears likely to be brief.

It also comes several months after Behar temporarily stepped away from the show for an entirely different reason.

Earlier this year, she missed approximately two weeks of episodes while traveling to Europe for her stage work.

Behar had been involved with “My First Ex-Husband,” a comedy centered on relationships, marriage and divorce that first opened Off-Broadway in New York in 2025.

Before leaving for Europe, Behar pushed back on reports describing her time away as a “hiatus.”

“It’s not a hiatus,” she told viewers, explaining that she was leaving to work.

She later discussed plans to spend time in Paris before heading to London for the production.

When Behar returned to “The View” in June, she enthusiastically described the overseas experience and joked that the show’s themes apparently crossed international borders.

“Turns out women all over the world hate their husbands,” Behar quipped at the time.

For now, however, Behar’s attention is on recovering from her shoulder injury.

No additional complications have been announced, and her representative indicated that the veteran television personality could be back on “The View” by the middle of next week.
