Barron Trump may be one of the most closely watched college students in America, but President Donald Trump’s youngest son has apparently managed to keep one major part of his life almost entirely private.
The 20-year-old NYU student has reportedly been quietly dating a girlfriend he met during college, with recent reports claiming the relationship has lasted for more than a year.
That would mean the romance may have begun during Barron’s first year at New York University — even as his father publicly suggested in late 2024 that his son had not yet entered the dating world.
Neither Barron nor the Trump family has publicly confirmed the relationship, and the woman’s identity has not been disclosed.
The secrecy is hardly surprising.
Unlike several other members of the Trump family, Barron has largely avoided interviews, public appearances and social media, making his personal life one of the more closely guarded corners of the presidential family.
Reports of a girlfriend first gained traction in May 2025, when NewsNation cited an unnamed friend on the NYU campus who said Barron had a “really nice girlfriend” and spent considerable time with her. PEOPLE subsequently reported that Secret Service protection would not prevent Barron from maintaining a relationship, with a source saying agents are accustomed to dealing with the dating lives of presidential family members.
More recent reporting has revived the story, claiming Barron and the unidentified woman have now been seeing each other for more than a year. However, there has still been no public confirmation from Barron himself, his parents or an identified representative for the woman.
Donald Trump Previously Thought His Son Was Single
The reported timeline is particularly interesting because of comments Donald Trump made about his youngest son before the dating reports surfaced.
During a 2024 appearance on the PBD Podcast, Trump said he did not believe Barron had ever had a girlfriend.
“I’m not sure he’s there yet,” Trump said at the time, adding that Barron was comfortable being alone but got along well with other people.
By the following spring, however, reports from people said to be familiar with Barron’s NYU life painted a different picture.
One anonymous campus source told NewsNation that Barron had a girlfriend and friends despite his quiet reputation, describing him as someone who preferred staying out of the limelight.
Barron’s dating history before college is even less clear.
A woman named Maddie previously attracted attention on TikTok after claiming she had dated Barron when the two were younger. She posted old photos and videos that she said showed them together and claimed their relationship ended after Barron moved schools.
Those social-media claims have never been independently established as a detailed public account of Barron’s dating history, and a number of other supposed romances involving Barron have circulated online without credible confirmation.
That makes the current girlfriend report substantially different from many of the internet rumors surrounding him: the claim that he was dating someone at NYU was previously reported by NewsNation and PEOPLE, although both accounts relied on unnamed sources rather than confirmation from Barron.
Barron’s College Life Has Changed
Barron began his college career at New York University’s Stern School of Business in Manhattan.
More recently, he has been reported to be studying through NYU in Washington, D.C., bringing him closer to the White House and his parents while continuing his education.
NYU operates an academic center in Washington, while its Stern School also runs programming there. Recent reporting has described Barron as studying in Washington rather than spending the semester at NYU’s main Manhattan campus.
The change raises an obvious question about his reported relationship.
If Barron met his girlfriend while attending school in New York, it is unclear whether the pair remain together while he studies in Washington. The newest reports describe the relationship as having lasted more than a year, but neither Barron nor the woman has publicly discussed its current status.
The intense interest surrounding Barron also comes despite his apparent determination to avoid becoming a conventional celebrity member of the Trump family.
Lara Trump has publicly said her brother-in-law prefers to “lay low,” while reports about his college life have consistently described him as far less public than his older siblings.
Secret Service Makes Ordinary Dating Anything but Ordinary
Dating privately would be difficult enough for the son of a sitting president. Barron also receives Secret Service protection, meaning even routine outings come with extraordinary security considerations.
But people familiar with presidential protection have pushed back on suggestions that the security detail would make a relationship impossible.
A source previously told PEOPLE that Secret Service personnel were experienced in handling situations involving girlfriends and other personal relationships. Other presidential children, including Jenna and Barbara Bush, Chelsea Clinton and Sasha and Malia Obama, have also navigated young adulthood while receiving government protection.
For Barron, that security has taken on greater significance in recent months.
In August 2026, Iranian state television aired a disturbing segment focused specifically on the president’s youngest son. The program used dramatized imagery depicting surveillance of Barron and claimed people had attempted to map his movements and social connections.
The broadcast also referred to a $10 million reward connected to efforts targeting him.
Iran International, which reported on the segment, said it could not independently verify the broadcast’s claims and noted that the program provided no evidence that anyone had successfully penetrated Barron’s security.
The Secret Service later confirmed that it was aware of the broadcast.
A spokesperson said the agency investigates anything that could be perceived as a threat against people under its protection but declined to discuss specific protective-intelligence matters.
There has been no public evidence connecting the reported girlfriend to that threat, and her identity remains undisclosed.
For now, that mystery appears likely to continue.
Barron has reached adulthood while remaining unusually private for a member of one of America’s most famous political families. And if reports about his year-long relationship are accurate, he has apparently managed to keep his girlfriend outside the spotlight as well.
