Netflix actor Clayton Conroy is slowly rebuilding his life after a horrific Los Angeles freeway crash left him with a traumatic brain injury, broken bones and months of rehabilitation.
Conroy, 32, who plays Padre Terry in Netflix’s crime drama The Gringo Hunters, was seriously injured April 19 while driving on the eastbound 10 Freeway near La Brea Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, another driver allegedly engaged in reckless driving before crashing into Conroy’s vehicle, leaving him with major injuries.
Conroy has said the other vehicle was traveling at more than 100 mph when the collision occurred. CHP has publicly described reckless driving and speeding as factors behind the case, although its reported statement did not specify an exact speed.
The actor remembers only fragments of what happened.
“The road was looking as normal as it could,” Conroy told the Santa Cruz Sentinel, recalling lights approaching quickly behind him before everything went dark.
His next memory was waking up in the hospital.
Crash Left Actor With Devastating Injuries
Conroy was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where doctors treated him for a traumatic brain injury as well as fractures to his hip and shoulder.
He also suffered nerve damage and required brain surgery following the crash.
The injuries were severe enough that he had to relearn basic physical skills during his recovery.
After spending about a month at Cedars-Sinai, Conroy continued cognitive, physical and occupational therapy. He initially needed a rollator to walk, later progressed to a cane and can now manage some short distances without assistance.
His recovery, however, is far from complete.
Conroy continues to deal with headaches, brain fog and cognitive fatigue — symptoms that can linger after a serious traumatic brain injury.
“That process, you really don’t have control over it,” he told the Sentinel. “You just have to rest and hope that it gets better and better.”
Actor Shares Emotional Recovery Update
Five months after the crash, Conroy gave followers a glimpse at his recovery in a September 20 Instagram video.
“It’s been getting better. Every day,” he said, before encouraging people going through difficult periods not to be afraid to seek help.
Conroy has also written candidly about just how close he believes he came to dying.
In an earlier Instagram post, he said he underwent brain surgery, lost roughly 20 pounds and suffered severe injuries to his arm and leg.
He added that the experience forced him to reconsider what matters most in his life.

19-Year-Old Driver Arrested Months Later
More than four months after the crash, California Highway Patrol investigators arrested 19-year-old Anaheim resident Noor El Deen Amr Soror.
CHP said Soror was taken into custody on August 25 in connection with the April wreck and accused of felony reckless driving causing major injuries.
The allegation has not been proven in court.
CHP Central Los Angeles Captain Martin Geller said the case demonstrated how quickly reckless driving can permanently alter someone’s life.
“Speeding, unsafe maneuvers, and other reckless behavior behind the wheel put everyone on the roadway at risk,” Geller said.
Under California law, reckless driving that results in certain serious bodily injuries can potentially be prosecuted as a felony rather than a simple traffic offense.
Crash Came After Conroy’s Netflix Break
The timing was especially brutal for Conroy, whose acting career had recently reached a major milestone.
He appears as Padre Terry in The Gringo Hunters, Netflix’s 2025 crime drama inspired by a real Mexican police unit that tracks down American fugitives who cross the border into Mexico.
Netflix describes the series as a fictional story inspired by the International Liaison Unit and its efforts to capture fugitives from the United States.
The first season consists of 12 episodes, and Conroy appears in several of them as the American Catholic priest Padre Terry.
The show premiered on Netflix in July 2025, less than a year before the crash dramatically interrupted Conroy’s career.
For now, the actor’s focus remains on recovery.
He told the Sentinel that he feels different since the accident but also fortunate to be alive, saying the ordeal has taught him not to take everyday life for granted.
