Highlander star Christopher Lambert gave fans a frightening scare after suddenly becoming ill during a packed fan convention and leaving the venue by ambulance.
The 69-year-old actor was signing autographs at Steel City Con in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, on Aug. 8 when witnesses said he collapsed during the event. Lambert was taken from the convention center by ambulance for medical attention, according to reports at the time.
But despite the alarming scene, Lambert’s representatives quickly moved to reassure fans that the movie star was doing well.
A representative told TMZ that Lambert was “perfectly OK” and resting at his hotel after the incident. His team said the actor had gotten little sleep the previous night and had not eaten much that day, causing his blood sugar to drop.
Steel City Con offered a slightly different but compatible explanation.
“Christopher was feeling a little overheated and dehydrated. He had to sit down, but he is doing great today,” organizers later said, according to reports.
No hospital or doctor has publicly announced that Lambert was diagnosed with a serious underlying illness, and there is currently no verified evidence that the collapse was caused by a chronic medical condition.
The distinction matters because the frightening episode has since fueled renewed speculation about the veteran actor’s health.
Lambert had initially been booked for multiple days at Steel City Con, which ran Aug. 7 through Aug. 9. After he became ill, the convention announced that he had left because of a “personal issue” and canceled a scheduled photo opportunity.
His team initially indicated that he hoped to continue with upcoming convention appearances.
Lambert was also listed for Fan Expo Chicago the following weekend, and another fan-event appearance was planned at Mad Monster Expo in Concord, North Carolina, from Aug. 21 through Aug. 23.
Mad Monster’s official event page later stated that Lambert had canceled his appearance for “personal reasons.” The convention did not say the cancellation was connected to his earlier collapse, so any link between the two would be speculation.
The incident came after another physical setback for Lambert.
In March 2025, his representative Lucas Confortini confirmed that the Greystoke actor was recovering from a back injury after tripping on stairs while entering a hotel several months earlier.
The fall did not break Lambert’s back, but he underwent physical therapy while recovering and canceled a planned appearance at Sweden’s SciFiWorld convention.
At the time, Lambert was already preparing to return to work, with his representative saying he was getting ready for another film project.
Lambert has been a familiar face to movie fans for more than four decades.
He starred as Tarzan in 1984’s Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes before becoming a cult-action icon as immortal swordsman Connor MacLeod in 1986’s Highlander.
He later appeared as Lord Raiden in the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie, along with roles in Fortress, Highlander sequels and numerous European productions.
For now, the most concrete information surrounding his convention collapse remains reassuring. His representatives attributed the episode to lack of food and sleep, while event organizers pointed to overheating and dehydration.
Neither Lambert nor his representatives have publicly announced a serious new diagnosis connected to the incident.
