Woman ‘Scalped’ by Ferris Wheel in Horrific Accident

A woman suffered a horrifying amusement-ride accident after her long hair became trapped inside a Ferris wheel mechanism, ripping away part of her scalp as stunned fairgoers watched.

Bali Maroti Talikote, 25, was riding the Ferris wheel at a festival in Maharashtra, India, on Friday when her hair became caught in a bearing located behind her seat, according to NDTV.

Disturbing video from the scene reportedly shows the wheel continuing to move before Talikote suddenly screams in agony as her hair is violently pulled into the machinery.

The force tore away a large portion of her scalp.

Horrified witnesses rushed toward the ride as Talikote remained trapped. Thousands of people, many of them women and children, had gathered for the one-day festival connected to a nearby temple.

Police officers at the scene helped stop the Ferris wheel and free the badly injured woman from the mechanism.

Talikote was rushed to a hospital in Pusad, where her condition was described as serious.

The terrifying accident is the latest in a string of serious fairground ride incidents reported across India in recent months.

On May 28, five people were injured when a spinning chair ride suddenly toppled over at a theme park in Kerala. Two teenagers and three adults were hospitalized after the ride tilted and crashed into a surrounding fence, throwing riders to the ground.

Just one month earlier, at least 30 people were injured when an overloaded Ferris wheel collapsed at a fair in Uttar Pradesh. Ten of those victims were reportedly critically injured.

Another frightening accident occurred in January, when at least 14 children were hurt after a giant swing broke loose and slammed into a wall during an annual fair in Madhya Pradesh.

The latest incident has once again raised concerns over ride safety after what was supposed to be a day of celebration turned into a gruesome nightmare.
