Brazilian music star Rey Vaqueiro miraculously walked away from a terrifying plane crash Sunday after his private jet overshot a runway, slammed into a wooded area and burst into flames.
The 26-year-old singer was traveling with five members of his entourage and two pilots when the Cessna 550 Bravo crashed while attempting to land at an airfield in Parelhas, in northeastern Brazil.
Dramatic video from the scene showed flames consuming the wreckage as both engines caught fire.
Despite the frightening crash, all eight people aboard survived without serious injuries.
Firefighters battled the blaze for roughly five hours before finally bringing it under control.
Authorities are still investigating exactly what caused the accident, but local fire chief Lima Verde said an apparent brake failure may have caused the aircraft to race beyond the end of the runway.
Investigators reportedly found no problems with the runway itself. The roughly 20-year-old aircraft also had a valid airworthiness certificate that was not due to expire until May 2027.
Vaqueiro, whose hit songs include “Displicente – Ao Vivo” and “Veraozao (Ta Color),” has built a massive following in Brazil. His most popular track on Spotify has been streamed more than 37 million times.
Following the crash, the singer’s team released a statement confirming that everyone aboard was safe and receiving medical attention.
The terrifying accident immediately forced Vaqueiro to cancel scheduled Sunday performances in Custódia and Canhotinho.
His Monday concert in Parambu was also canceled.
“It’s unimaginable to think about a plane crash in Parelhas. But it happened,” Parelhas Mayor Tiago Almeida wrote on Instagram.
He praised emergency crews and health workers who rushed to help after the crash.
“In the face of a situation no one expected to live, health professionals and an entire team rallied together to care, welcome and do what they can in the face of such a delicate emergency,” Almeida said.
The crash came as Vaqueiro was nearing the halfway point of his “Septembro do Rey” tour across Brazil.
The singer still has eight concerts scheduled for later this week, although it remains unclear whether those performances will go ahead.
For Vaqueiro and the seven others aboard the jet, however, the biggest story may be that they managed to escape a fiery crash that could have ended far differently.
