A family argument over an expensive new iPhone ended in unimaginable tragedy when a 19-year-old and both of his parents plunged to their deaths from a cliff in India, authorities said.

Kunal Chandude, 19, reportedly headed to Khawadya Hill in Tisgaon, near Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, on Friday after clashing with his father over money he needed to make payments on a new iPhone.

The teenager had allegedly bought the phone on an installment plan but later found himself unable to keep up with the payments.

He then asked his father, 48-year-old taxi driver Murlidhar Chandude, for help with the bill. When his father refused, the dispute escalated.

Kunal reportedly reached the hilltop at about 10 a.m., with his worried parents following closely behind.

What followed was a desperate three-hour effort to bring him safely away from the edge.

Police officers, villagers and Kunal’s parents pleaded with the teenager as he stood dangerously close to the roughly 250-foot gorge.

Disturbing footage circulating online reportedly shows Kunal near the cliff while people desperately call out to him. His mother, Sangita, can be seen dropping to her knees as the terrifying standoff unfolds.

Firefighters even positioned a safety net below the teenager in hopes of catching him, but Kunal reportedly kept moving along the cliffside and away from the area covered by the net.

At around 1 p.m., Murlidhar moved closer to his son in an apparent attempt to calm him and pull him away from danger.

Seconds later, disaster struck.

Kunal went over the edge, and his father also fell while apparently trying to save him.

“The boy fell from the cliff and holding on to his father’s hand, pulled him down with him,” District Collector and Magistrate Vinay Gowda reportedly said.

Authorities said Sangita then went over the cliff shortly afterward. Officials reportedly believe she may have jumped after watching her husband and son fall.

All three died.

Sangita reportedly ran a YouTube channel with about 29,000 followers where she shared motivational content.

In a chilling post reportedly made just one day before the tragedy, she spoke about giving love only to people who value it.

“If a person does not value you, does not value your love, or does not value what you do for them, then there is no point in doing anything for such a person,” she reportedly said.

Authorities have opened an investigation into exactly how the horrific sequence of events unfolded.

The bodies were released to relatives following post-mortem examinations.
