A routine evening dog walk turned into a nightmare for a Los Angeles couple after an enraged driver allegedly jumped a curb and chased them across a park — nearly running over them and their beloved dog.
The terrifying confrontation unfolded Wednesday evening near Harold A. Henry Park in LA’s Mid-Wilshire neighborhood and was captured on an Uber driver’s dashcam.
Video shows an orange car suddenly veering off the street and onto the grass as a man, his fiancée and their dog desperately scramble to get out of the way.
“I just run straight on the grass as far back as I can,” the woman, identified as Celine, told ABC7. “I look back and I see his car like right behind me.”
According to the couple, the bizarre encounter began with what should have been a harmless interaction at a stop sign.
Celine said she and her fiancé motioned for the driver to go ahead so they could cross the street behind him.
But instead of simply driving away, the man allegedly became furious.
“We weren’t paying attention because we were on the phone,” Celine recalled. “We thought he was just going to drive through, and then I hear him yell, ‘What, you don’t speak effing English?’”
Seconds later, things reportedly took a terrifying turn.
Dashcam footage appears to show the orange vehicle making a sharp left turn, jumping the curb and barreling across the grass directly toward the couple.
Celine’s fiancé, Logan, said he grabbed their dog, Olive, and yanked her out of the vehicle’s path just in time.
He said the car “barely missed” them.
“It all happened in a matter of seconds, but it was definitely one of the craziest things that’s ever happened to us,” Logan said.
The frightening encounter apparently wasn’t over yet.
As the driver finally pulled away, Celine claims he shouted one last chilling taunt.
“Bet you’re effing scared now, huh?” she recalled him saying.
Other people at the park reportedly witnessed the chaos unfold.
“I just see them running toward the park, and the car came up on the curb like very crazy and then he drove away,” witness Sequoia Hugee, who was at the park with her own dog, told ABC7.
The couple later reported the incident to the Los Angeles Police Department.
As of Saturday, police reportedly had not announced an arrest or released any new information about the investigation.
For Celine and Logan, what began as an ordinary walk with Olive became a frightening reminder of just how quickly a minor street confrontation can spiral into something far more dangerous.
