Mary Rivera, the actress remembered for her scene-stealing role as Ned Leeds’ grandmother in Spider-Man: No Way Home, has died at the age of 82.

Rivera suffered a serious stroke before slipping into a coma, according to a family member who spoke to TMZ. Doctors reportedly warned her loved ones that her condition was extremely grave and that her chances of making a meaningful recovery were slim.

Faced with the heartbreaking prognosis, Rivera’s family made the difficult decision to remove her from life support.

She died on April 15 in Honolulu and was later cremated, the relative said.

Although Rivera’s time in the Marvel blockbuster was brief, her appearance became one of the most memorable and humorous moments in the 2021 movie.

Rivera played the Filipino grandmother of Ned Leeds, portrayed by Jacob Batalon. In one fan-favorite scene, she speaks in Tagalog while asking Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man to clean cobwebs from the ceiling, forcing Ned to translate her unusual request.

The moment quickly won over audiences and gave Rivera a special place in one of Marvel’s biggest movies.

Her family said Rivera was incredibly proud of landing the role. In fact, it was her loved ones who reportedly encouraged her to audition in the first place.

Appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home ultimately became one of the greatest accomplishments of her life.

Her family said Rivera lived a full and happy life before her death.

She is survived by her husband, Alejandro, her children, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
