Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, is facing fresh embarrassment after admitting he struck a parked car in California wine country and left the scene, according to Napa County authorities.

The 86-year-old husband of the former House Speaker reportedly hit a Tesla parked along a road in Yountville, California, on July 3 while driving a brown convertible. Authorities said the car did not remain at the scene after the crash.

According to the sheriff’s office, a witness reported seeing the convertible hit the parked Tesla, stop briefly, and then drive away.

Photos of the damaged Tesla later showed serious damage, including large dents, brown paint marks, and a torn bumper.

Police eventually traced the incident back to Pelosi after finding the convertible blocking a road roughly a quarter mile from the crash site later that day.

When questioned by a deputy, Paul reportedly said he “believed” he had hit something but did not know what it was, so he kept driving.

Because no one was injured, Pelosi was not arrested at the scene. However, he was charged with a misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident and later pleaded guilty.

The incident could now have bigger consequences for Pelosi behind the wheel. Authorities said alcohol was not detected in his system, but officers were reportedly concerned enough to refer the matter to the Department of Motor Vehicles to determine whether his license should be reviewed.

The crash has also revived attention on Paul Pelosi’s past driving troubles.

In May 2022, he was arrested for driving under the influence after a crash in Napa County. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation.

At the time, the case was a major public embarrassment for the Pelosi family. Nancy Pelosi reportedly hired high-profile defense attorney Larry Kramer, one of San Francisco’s best-known lawyers, to represent her husband.

The latest crash is another painful headline for the powerful political family, whose private troubles have repeatedly spilled into public view.

Paul Pelosi’s history on the road dates back decades. When he was just 16 years old, he was behind the wheel of a sports car that flipped in a crash that killed his 19-year-old brother. Reports from the time said his brother had begged him to slow down shortly before the wreck.

In 2022, Pelosi was also the victim of a violent attack inside the couple’s San Francisco home. Intruder David Wayne DePape broke into the residence and attacked him with a hammer, leaving him with a fractured skull.

A spokesman for the Pelosis said Paul apologized to the owner of the damaged vehicle and agreed to take responsibility.

“Mr. Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle,” the spokesman said. “Speaker Pelosi will not be commenting further on this private matter.”

Still, the July 3 crash has put Paul Pelosi back under an uncomfortable spotlight — and this time, the question is whether officials will let him keep driving.
