A groom’s wedding night has turned into a shocking criminal case after authorities accused him of raping one of his own guests just hours after saying “I do.”

Zachary Prouty, 38, has been arrested in Pennsylvania on multiple charges, including rape and sexual assault, after an alleged incident that unfolded following his October 2025 wedding, according to a probable cause affidavit cited by ABC 27, CBS 21 and the York Daily Record.

It is not immediately clear whether Prouty has entered a plea or hired an attorney to speak on his behalf.

Police say the investigation began on Oct. 17, 2025, when officers with the Bonneauville Borough Police Department were called to Gettysburg Hospital. There, they met with a woman who had undergone a sexual assault examination after attending Prouty’s wedding the night before.

According to the affidavit, the woman told investigators she had been at the wedding, consumed alcohol and planned to spend the night at a home in Gettysburg with several other people.

But the celebration allegedly took a disturbing turn after the other guests went to bed.

The woman claimed she was alone with Prouty on a couch when he kissed her without her consent. She alleged that he then followed her into another room, where the unwanted behavior continued.

She told police she later lost consciousness and woke up the next morning in an unfamiliar bedroom, with her clothes on the floor, according to the affidavit.

When police contacted Prouty, investigators said he declined to comment.

Authorities later obtained a DNA sample from Prouty and submitted it for testing. Investigators alleged that the sample matched DNA collected during the woman’s sexual assault examination.

Prouty appeared in court on Thursday, July 16, and has since been released on $50,000 bail, the York Daily Record reported, citing court records.

The Kentucky resident is expected to return to court in August as the case moves forward.
