Jodie Foster Sparks Health Fears After Rare Sighting in New York

Hollywood icon Jodie Foster is sparking fresh concern among fans after she was spotted walking with a cane during a rare public outing in New York City with wife Alexandra Hedison.

The famously private Silence of the Lambs star, now 63, was photographed leaning on the cane while carrying grocery bags through the streets of Manhattan — and the sight immediately set off speculation about her health.

Fans were especially surprised because Foster appeared perfectly mobile during multiple red carpet appearances earlier this year while promoting her latest film, A Private Life. But during the recent outing, onlookers noticed the actress appeared to rely heavily on the medical support cane and seemed to favor one leg while walking.

The Oscar winner reportedly held the cane in her left hand while wearing cushioned athletic sneakers, leading some fans to wonder if lingering damage from her brutal 2018 skiing accident may still be causing problems years later.

Back in 2018, Foster suffered a serious ACL injury that required reconstructive knee surgery after a ski accident. At the time, she openly joked about the painful recovery while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live with a flashy black cane topped with a gold skull handle.

“You play basketball, you ski, you end up having one of these,” Foster joked during the appearance after Kimmel pointed out she had previously been seen on crutches at the Oscars.

The actress also revealed doctors rebuilt her knee using titanium and donor tissue, joking that she had “a little cadaver” inside her leg after surgery.

While Foster has not publicly commented on her latest appearance or whether she is dealing with new medical issues, the photos quickly fueled concern online as fans questioned whether the longtime actress may still be struggling with lasting mobility problems.

Despite the health worries, Foster appeared to be in good spirits during the outing as Hedison stayed close by her side. The couple has largely stayed out of the spotlight since marrying in a private ceremony back in 2014.

Before her marriage to Hedison, Foster welcomed two sons, Charlie and Kit, during her longtime relationship with former partner Cyndy Bernard. Her youngest son, Kit, graduated from Princeton in 2024 and has been described by Foster as a “hyper-focused scientist,” while Charlie has pursued acting.
