What was supposed to be the happiest night of her life turned into a nightmare no one at the wedding will ever forget.
A Brazilian bride was allegedly shot and killed by her own groom during their wedding reception after the newlyweds got into a heated argument that spiraled into deadly violence.
According to Brazilian outlets, 34-year-old Nájylla Duenas Nascimento was celebrating her wedding on Saturday, May 9, when tensions suddenly exploded between her and her new husband, 55-year-old Daniel Barbosa Marinho, a longtime member of the Municipal Guard.
Witnesses said the couple’s argument quickly turned physical before Marinho allegedly pulled out his service weapon and opened fire on his bride.
Shockingly, authorities say the first shots did not kill Nascimento.
But the horror didn’t end there.
Investigators claim the groom fled the scene before later returning to the wedding reception and shooting his wife again in front of terrified guests.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but Nascimento — a mother of three children from a previous relationship — was pronounced dead during what should have been her wedding celebration.
Family members reportedly scrambled to get children out of the home as chaos erupted and gunfire rang out.
Police later recovered shell casings, ammunition, projectiles, and the firearm allegedly used in the killing.
In an even more chilling twist, authorities say the suspect himself contacted the Municipal Guard after the shooting to report the crime. He was later detained on suspicion of femicide and taken into pretrial custody.
The Municipal Guard of Campinas released a statement saying it “deeply regrets the incident” and insisted the agency is fully cooperating with investigators.
“The corporation is fully cooperating with the Civil Police investigations and remains available to the authorities to provide all necessary clarifications,” a spokesperson said.
