In a heated confrontation that could soon land in court, TV’s longtime legal authority Judge Greg Mathis is accused of threatening to shoot a Los Angeles city worker after his driveway was blocked by a municipal truck.
The incident, which allegedly took place in July 2023, has been outlined in a forthcoming lawsuit from Ricardo Acosta, a Los Angeles Department of Power and Water employee.
“Move your f** truck out of the way,” Mathis allegedly screamed, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
Acosta claims that Mathis, frustrated at being unable to leave his Beverly Hills home, launched into a profanity-laced tirade when he encountered the city worker’s dump truck blocking his driveway.
What started as a dispute over parking quickly escalated. Acosta alleges that when he asked Mathis to step back from the truck for safety reasons, the TV judge snapped. “Run me over and see what happens,” Mathis reportedly shouted.
The situation took a darker turn, Acosta claims, when Mathis retreated inside his home only to reemerge with a firearm. The judge allegedly warned Acosta, “You wanna f* with me? I’ll bust a cap if you don’t move.”**
Acosta says Mathis eventually drove off, but not before issuing another verbal threat about shooting him. The municipal worker now seeks damages for assault and emotional distress, though the lawsuit has yet to be officially filed.
Mathis’s Team Fires Back
Judge Mathis, a former Detroit district court judge who spent 25 seasons presiding over televised courtroom drama, is no stranger to public confrontations. But his attorney, Anahita Sedaghatfar, has dismissed Acosta’s claims as an elaborate fabrication.
“This unfiled complaint, conveniently circulated to the media, is a desperate attempt by Mr. Acosta to extort my client,” Sedaghatfar said in a statement to TMZ. She insists that it was Acosta who posed a threat to Mathis, leaving him concerned for the safety of his family.
Sedaghatfar vowed to fight back if the lawsuit proceeds. “We will not only vigorously defend this case but will file cross claims against Mr. Acosta for his illegal conduct and repeated defamation.”
A History of Temper?
Judge Mathis, known for his fiery personality on Judge Mathis, has built a reputation as a no-nonsense adjudicator. Fans have long admired his tough-love approach, but this incident may cast a new shadow over the TV icon’s public image.
Some legal experts say this case could hinge on eyewitness testimony and any security footage that might corroborate or refute Acosta’s claims. If the lawsuit moves forward, it will likely draw significant media attention, given Mathis’s prominence in the entertainment industry.
As the drama unfolds, one thing is certain: this legal showdown between a city worker and a TV judge is already shaping up to be as sensational as the cases Mathis once ruled on from behind the bench.

I used to think he was a smart man. Now, not so much. Acting Ghetto when you are inconvenienced by a city employee is disappointing. I hope the worker got him on camera. Mathis needs to be reminded he’s not that famous or relevant.
