A pilot’s desperate final words have emerged from the cockpit of a doomed private jet that plunged into a Florida roadway Sunday, killing all nine people aboard and leaving behind a massive crater near President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
“We’re out of time,” the pilot reportedly said in the final seconds before the Learjet 60 slammed into the ground in Palm Beach County on November 1, erupting into a fireball that sent debris flying across the surrounding neighborhood.
The terrifying final moments were captured in air traffic control recordings, revealing how an apparently manageable encounter with turbulent weather turned into a deadly emergency in less than a minute.
The aircraft had departed Austin, Texas, and was heading to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas when disaster struck shortly before 1 p.m.
Just minutes earlier, the flight crew had reported ice accumulating on the aircraft and moderate turbulence, with temperatures outside the jet plunging to minus 47 degrees Celsius, approximately 53 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.
“We’re managing the ice,” the pilot told air traffic controllers while asking whether smoother conditions were available ahead.
Controllers initially reassured the crew that better flying conditions were expected. But after the pilots reported precipitation and requested permission to climb to a higher altitude, the situation rapidly deteriorated.
“Mayday, mayday,” the pilot urgently radioed, reporting that the aircraft was plunging at approximately 10,000 feet per minute.
Seconds later, the descent had accelerated to 20,000 feet per minute, and the jet was traveling dangerously fast.
“We’re going to crash into the ground,” the pilot warned.
The final transmission came moments later as the aircraft continued its uncontrolled descent.
“We’re out of time.”
Flight-tracking data reviewed by aviation experts indicated the jet’s descent rate briefly exceeded an astonishing 32,000 feet per minute, illustrating just how quickly the pilots lost control.
Dashcam footage captured the horrifying moment the aircraft dropped nearly vertically toward Military Trail, near 10th Avenue North, before striking the roadway and exploding.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who visited the crash site, compared the horrifying impact to a missile strike.
“It looked like a missile going down,” DeSantis said, describing the devastating scene left behind.
The impact tore a massive crater into the roadway, scattered wreckage across the surrounding area and sent thick smoke rising above nearby homes.
One local resident told Fox News the impact felt like an enormous explosion. Others described being startled by the tremendous blast as emergency vehicles raced toward the scene.
Despite the destruction, authorities reported no injuries among people on the ground, an extraordinary outcome given the densely populated neighborhood surrounding the crash site.
However, the disaster has forced approximately 600 residents of a nearby mobile home community to leave their homes while investigators examine the wreckage and crews assess damage to roads and utilities.
Officials warned that part of Military Trail could remain closed for weeks, leaving residents and nearby businesses facing prolonged disruption.
The crash occurred several miles from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort. Although the proximity to the president’s Florida estate has drawn attention, authorities have reported no connection between the aircraft and Trump or his property.
The identities of the nine victims had not been publicly released as of Monday morning, and officials had not confirmed how many were passengers or crew members.
Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board, working alongside the Federal Aviation Administration, are examining the wreckage, flight data, weather conditions and final communications to determine what caused the aircraft’s catastrophic descent.
Thunderstorms and turbulent conditions were reported across South Florida around the time of the crash, but investigators have not established whether severe weather or icing caused the disaster.
For now, the haunting cockpit recording offers a glimpse into the final moments of a flight that went from a routine journey toward the Bahamas to a fatal emergency in a matter of seconds.
